No pins, getting fuzz, it has been 18 days, wait or case?
    #1509222 - 04/30/03 09:12 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

9 brf cakes, B+ and TC, 18 days in a nice rubbermaid, 95%+ rh, fluor. light about 12/12, temp at 75F on a grate thing approx 1" above well soaked perlite. Misting 1-3 times a day and fanning 2-5 a day. Very knotty looking and getting a little fuzz on the tops and the bottoms. One has a slight bruise but overall cakes look okay. Cakes feel dry to the touch, but do not know what is proper as this is my first try. Dunked them but for only 2 hours or so and double ended them about a week ago. 2 days ago I found a tiny white thing that looks like a stalagmite maybe 1/4 in. tall coming out of the fuzz on the bottom of a cake, I have flipped it over. I think that I have found the same on another cake but it is so small I am not sure, flipped that one too so the "thing" (pin maybe, no brown yet) is facing up. Many pics look like the pins usually are on the area closest to the verm. Should I wait as I have recently double ended them and the fuzz is growing through the verm? Or am I looking at too long of a time and they are drying out?

Wait a couple days to see if it is a pin.

Props to you for using stalagmite.

Yes, white, doesnt look like cobweb. Is there a name for this white fuzz? I have read that it is a sign of high rh? Is there ever a too high rh for cakes? I have read that 100% can be too much, also read that the higher the better. Anyone have an opinion on rh?

That's a good sign.

Mycelium. I mean there is a more specific term, but damn it if I can't find my edition of The Mushroom Cultivator, which I recommend if you are at all serious about this hobby.

Yes, it can be a sign of too high rH, but when working with cakes you should have a high rH (95%-100%)

I think your doing fine, just sometimes it takes a while. Just let it be, continue fanning, and don't screw around with it anymore.

Good luck.

Yeah, not the myc per se but the secondary growing of fuzzy myc when fruiting, does this have a name? rhizomorphic mycelium? is that correct?
