Think this show deserves a thread, its truly one of the best shows ever, even tho its only gone threw one season. Its based on real drama and real people making it more badass, not to mention a killer cast and superb production! So whos wit me.

The first season was amazing. Top notch television. I seriously think it's going to be one of the best series of all time. The acting, screen play, dialogue, all of it, it's just great.

 Yeah, definitely. All of the characters are so fluid, transforming episode to episode. No one is what I would consider a typecast character. Boardwalk Empire has to be one of the best series I've ever seen, maybe a little less then great than Breaking Bad but give it time and I'm sure they will be both on the same even plain of cinematic crack cocaine greatness.

most definitely its hard to say with only one season to say its that great, but it most certainly has the potential to be one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.

dood yeah, Terrance Winters!~ he's a brilliant writer, also Mark Whalberg and Martin Scorscese, they do a great job producing this show. Not to mention the Casting and costume designs are so well done and thought out, its a really good show. Its also cool how its all like factually accurate, atleast to a point, its kinda sweet I like it, so you kinda have some idea of whats going to happen ya know. I know the second season takes place in 1929, so I'm thinking in a few seasons they will experience the Great Depression and what not, should be really interesting. I wont say anything more about the second season until everyones caught up.

This show seems to be under the radar though, not alot of people I know have been watching it or even know about it, but once they do they are stunned. I think I can safely say that it is by far one of my favorite shows, even tho its only just begun. I love steve buschemi

even tho he looks nothing like the real one;

also this guy is a great actor aswell!

and arnold rothstein!

real rothstein;

they have such an awesome cast;

torrio kinda looks like the real thing too

capone;

lets not forget this guy;

and chaulky!

HBO always has such good casting!

The guy that plays Al Capone, Stephen Graham, is the guy that played Tommy on Snatch.

What an incredible show, great season opening. The KKK opening up on all the black people with a 1919 was epic.

And then they played it off like Chalky was in the wrong for killing one of those racist murdering sons of bitches. Weird how things worked back then.

Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

I got half way threw episode two and I had used up too much time for free videobb or whatever gotta redo it. I forgot that nucky was arrested at the end.,

I think I like this show as much as Breaking Bad.  The gangsters were more badass back then versus the gangsters now.

oh my, what a great episode, things are really heating up. Anyone care to speculate? I think Eli is going to come to terms with nucky I bet, al capone kills torio, arnold rotsteine is going to die by the hands of lucky or one of his honchos. Jimmy eventually betrays the commadore I bet.

Man  this is based on real events Torio does not get killed by Capone, he gets shot 5 times then survives to turn the rackets over to Capone. Capone then goes into a 2 year gangland war to take Chicago......which he does by splitting up the city after the national syndicate is formed to divide territory across the whole country and parts of Canada.
You should have watched Prohibition by Ken Burns or watched one of the hundreds of movies about Capone and prohibition era gangsters. This shit aint new dude

yeah man it really is! I think it might be the best show I think. Breaking bad is sick, but its 4 seasons. I think after 4 seasons boardwalk empire may be epic! I hope they do the great depression and all that.

This is based quite a bit on historical facts. Its a show, it can't be 100%. The outfit will take over chicago. They changed the commadores name from Louis Kuehnle to Louis Darmody, but its pretty cool how accurate it is.

I know, it's great. I'm actually liking season 2 even more than 1. The episode where Nucky was isolated from everybody was great. It looked really bad for him at first, but he bounced back almost immediately which was cool. Just goes to show how crafty he is

His brother is officially a psychopath after the wrench incident. That Irish guy fucking the maid will come in handy, you can tell.

Yeah I have a feeling him and richard harrow are going to square off. I wonder if nuckys wife, um miss shcroeder will turn on him, she seems to be questioning their relationship more and more, and she seems to be hiding money, seems to show she is thinking about a way out if she needs one.

i don't think she was looking for a way out, she thinks he spends to much money and not long after saying that she started tucking money away.  I think she's just trying to protect him, putting money away for rough times to save him again.  She didn't like the things she found out about him but eventually she came around and accepted them, when she see's some dead bodys that might change.  She clearly didn't like what happened with that fight at the end yet that shotgun looked like it was made for her. When its all said and done he might be running from her:lol:

not to mention scorese and whalberg! and steve buschemi! The costumes, and acting, and the way they talk is fairly awesome, I wasnt alive back then but I would imagine its alot like that.

what do you think of the letter from immigration, and the maid claiming that was her? I never really put that one together. I think you're right tho, she is indeed just trying to protect him, I think though she may end up having to pull the trigger, or perhaps witness nucky doing something intensely malicious, that really opens her eyes to what she is involved in. I think nucky confronting his brother like that is really going to inspire some motivation Elli to get serious, and take jimmy more serious as a player. Also al capones tight relationship with jimmy is going to be a threat towards nucky in the episodes to come. Shits going to get intense, and then theres chaulky, who obviously has some discontent with nucky.

i remember when she wss talking to the maid and her saying it wasn't her and getting pissy about it, i never caught on to the fact it was a immigration letter i guess she must be over illegally then.  One thing i did pick up in this episode along those same lines however was before the maid told her that her family was dead i thought?  and this episode the maid told that guy she was fucking that her family disowned her, so put these two things together and it sounds as if she ran from her family or something bad happened over there i dunno, so there could be some interesting things to come from all of that

she asked for someone specific, and the lady said she had died 12yrs ago, then at the end of the episode that same maid, said something like ' I know that was you blah blah blah I wont tell anyone' then shcroeder made a sour pickle face and roll credits. I think the maid later claim she was disowned or somethign assuming that was her? idk in the immigration letter that was sent you see pictures of some dood two kids and a women.

That scene a couple episodes back when Jimmy's wife was sketching Richard was such an intensely great scene.
Then later he was going to shoot himself. :feelsbadman: He's the best character on the show IMO.  He conveys so much with relatively few lines and scenes.

I think he's the most iconic character of the series, too.  The only one that feels 100% unique to the show, and really defines it in a lot of ways.  The way the camera focuses on him, sometimes mask side sometimes regular side, sometimes from the front and they're all different looks for the same guy depending on what they want in the scene.  His anguish is palpable in just the lines he speaks and things he does without ever being direct.  This show is crafty and complex, I love it.  The other characters are great, Chalky White especially, but despite that they aren't so unique in that we've never seen gangsters on TV before.  But Richard is a character you've never see the likes of in anything before.  Kind of like R2D2 and C3PO of Star Wars.

I love that shot Richard made in Season 1, right after that dude was threatened saying he'll never know when he's gonna get it.

10 seconds later, boom. Waiters glass shatters and nails him right in the head with a .308 . Richard is a good shot for a dude with only half a face.

How the hell are you going to get an accurate sight picture with both eyes open?

Have you ever actually tried it with both eyes open?

Yes, I was more alluding to the fact that half of his face is missing. Apparently his dominant eye isn't.

One eye squinting, other eye in scope open is what I was always taught.  Yes, I have.  Though I don't own a scoped weapon.  The idea is that you can acquire your target more easily this way.  Google it.  I do it with iron sights as well.

Yeah, that's pretty much one eye closed and the other open. Otherwise it's impossible to line up the sights since your eyes are about 3" apart.

It's not "pretty much," it's definitely both eyes open.  Have you ever tried shooting that way yourself?

Yes, didn't work out too well. Not even with an EOTECH or ACOG. Now I can shoot with either eye, but I'm primarily right eye dominant. But one of them has to be closed.

I know plenty of successful hunters who accurately shoot with both eyes open. The number of eyes open is not a measure of how accurate the shot is, it all depends on the individual. He may have lost his dominate eye but he seems wise and professional enough to easily adapt to his other eye.

To be absolutely honest, I don't think buschemi is the real star of this show, even tho it focus solely around him, the other actors in this show are amazing, more so I think because of the fact that alot of them are mostly unknown, and what an amazing job they do. Like lil miss pussycat who gets pregnant, that last episode she was amazing in, so well done, the entire first season I thought she was just some nuance but she has really come around, and I think she's capable of putting some serious pressure on both the detective and nucky.

fuck. im completely caught up on this series and love it. the only two shows ive been watching before are dexter and breaking bad and i think this tops them... sucks cause ive put off viewing this for awhile, had a lot of time to catch up on the episodes. now im stuck with you guys having to wait week by week to catch up.. fuck this is a good show.

scorseses has always been my favorite director, with him working as an exec. producer it really feels like one of his films. the main characters, the secondary characters..im attached to all of them. this is a brilliant show.

so glad i started watching.

It's one of my top favorite shows, that's for sure. But Dexter and Breaking Bad are so completely different, I find it hard to compare.

It's like comparing The Venture Brothers to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Both awesome shows, but they're very different.

I was so bored of dexter after awhile, it just seemed to repeat the same narrative after awhile. Blah blah blah kill someone, find something to compete with etc... Boardwalk empire is getting intense, I find myself befuzzled with each move they make, trying to figure out where its going. The character development is getting so rich! I absolutely love it.

I usually devote my entire attention to it, so I have no problem.

Now if I mix benzos and alcohol like I used to do, I have to watch each one 2-3 time to remember it all. Which isn't necessarily bad, It gives me something to fill my off time with, episodes that I've already seen, but can't fucking remember.

So glad I stopped drinking again.

Did Van Alden really have a baby with his daughter? I recall her saying "daddy" in the recent episode. Not sure if that meant it was his actual daughter or not.

Oh ok, I knew Van Alden was a bit twisted after he drowned his partner last season, but I couldn't believe he would knock up his own daughter just to have a kid because his wife couldn't get pregnant.

Although it was New Jersey in the 20's. Anything's possible.

yeah. i remember nucky telling her to cut it out with the 'daddy' shit.

i hate van alden so much, but damn, the dude who plays him is really talented.

sucks to see nucky stepping down, i know by the end of the season he'll be back on top. hopefully he still keeps his office in the ritz, i love all the meetings and bullshitting that goes on in there.

I think deep down that is just him positioning his chess pieces. Shit is about to get intense. Between nucky wanting to talk to owens boss again in ireland, to him wanting to discuss something with chawlky, shits about to go down I think. Unless he really does retire, which he actually did in real life, and move to ireland to relax. I don't know why one would want to retire in ireland tho.

Getting gnarly. I love how this show goes from incredibly emotional and family orientated and then gets horribly violent. I thought for a second his wife might start selling dope to her new friends artsy friends. Guess not, :frown:.

That's exactly what I thought... Guess that's good writing though, not being predictable. I didn't really like her, her storyline, or her new haircut. Didn't consider the possibility that this would lead Jimmy to the heroin, pretty interesting thought though. I was surprised they killed her, she's in the opening credits :smirk:. I guess, for that matter, so is Paz de la Huerta and it seems like Lucy's outta there, too. (Didn't care for Angela, or really Lucy, but I have thing for Paz)

Yeah, Manny was pretty damn hardcore, I wasn't sure if he was going to kill Angela after he offed the other girl or not. Of ALL the people Jimmy deals with, the psychopathic butcher seems like one of the LAST ones to screw around with. Especially over $5k?! It seems like it would have just made sense to pay him and just be done with it, especially since he actually DID owe him the money. How much is $5000 to him anyhow?! He obviously has it since he gave that jackass 3rd person speaking Remus $60000. Didn't Manny just butcher an enemy when he was first introduced, and the later have someone strung up in the freezer waiting to kill?

Al least that was a really good episode to make up for the shitbag "mid-season finale" episode of The Walking Dead. My DVR is busy on Sunday nights.

Jimmies first mistake in regards to manny was flexing at the end of the last episode or the other one, by throwing whats his face off the balcony. Thats what made it obvious to manny that something was up. Atleast in my opinion. I love how this show goes from drama to violence in a matter of seconds.

Classic Oedipus complex, killed the father and fucked his mother in the same episode.........weird, wild stuff.
If I'm not mistaken during an earlier episode this season his mother claimed to have "kissed his pee pee when he was a baby" so I'd imagine that may have played a role in his dysfunction. Boardwalk Empire is really delivering this year, multiple main characters killed off and indited with federal charges AND polio.

Yeah, totally. There have been hints all along at it but this really threw it out there. What struck me is when he was choking his Mom without showing any signs of letting up, it was the Commodore out of all people who tried to rescue her. Then, after Jimmy and the Commodore were both injured and looking at each other, it was his Mom who said "Well finish it already you son of a bitch" or something like that to Jimmy. Very interesting stuff. Even after being choked to the brink (the bitch definitely deserved it) she still sides with Jimmy.

I knew they'd kill the Commodore soon but I liked how they did it. Total Hamlet/Oedipus complex going on here, definitely. Just how like at the college mixer his Mom manipulated him in to attacking his teacher and getting expelled, all presumably (in my opinion) out of jealousy that Jimmy was hooked up with Angela (dead paris girl) a girl he didn't even like that much he ended up having a kid with, going in to the military to escape life.

Lettuce not forget Van Alden, who finally had to come to terms with his killing of the other officer and choose to run away from it. I wonder how he will play in to next week :strokebeard:

Can't wait until the season finale. So pumped for a bunch of people dying :awebig:

Also I gotta point out this show has a lot of balls. Killing main characters, incest, Freudian family dynamics, alcohol, guns, heroin, great music, sets, the best characters on TV right now.

holy hell, what a brilliant episode.

as mentioned, this was a twisted, backwards take on oedipus rex. theyve been hinting at jimmy and his mom possibly having a history of sexual activity for awhile, but damn it was still pretty surprising.

also no surprise jimmy decided to bust out the h. hope this doesnt become common for him.

but shit yea, james killing his dad was a total fucking shock. and his mom just standing there casually, "finish him." insane. then the next scene jimmy is shown talking with his own son, sort of eerie.

Couldn't have said it better myself, and yes the Van Alden storyline was great. I totally forgot about him killing the little guy so I was pleasantly surprised to see him shoot a prohibition officer and lamb it. It's so action packed I wouldn't be shocked if they wrapped up the whole series in 3 seasons.

She seduced him when he was wasted in college, those were all flashbacks. He wakes up later in the episode all fucked up on whiskey and heroin, and it seems like he realizes what happened and how fucked up his mother is. Tries too kill her, and grandpa comes up from the back with a spear, like he's going after some wild boar.

not sure, but seeing him the way he was post-stroke, you really realize the dude is a phenomenal actor. i think it was the last episode were he was just struggling to get words out, then tells jimmy to show them his cock. the guy playing him is amazing considering he had to play a stroke victim and pulled it off quite convincingly

Just got to watch it last night. I can't believe he fucked his mom... :nonono: I wasn't sure if it was actually going to happen.

I too would bang his mom... If you think Gretchen Mol is hot, you should see The Notorious Bettie Paige. She's Bettie Paige.

They've cleaned house on A LOT of characters this season...

Margaret better not testify, that'd be pretty fucked up. She was OK with everything until the shit hit the fan...

well i mean it was like a dreamish episode and didn't really progress upon the established plot lines, except for the federal cop being caught out and nochy's situation improving. most of it was all reminissing about jimmy's life growing up, his relationship with his wife, etc

i dunno it still was a good episode. i guess i'm just jaded because i wanted to see jimmy crack the shits and start a war with the jewish guy

Best show on TV right now. Pumped for the season finale. It's gonna suck having to wait a year though.

Well I waited til I was all caught up before I jumped in this thread, didn't want any spoilers.  Holy hell this season is badass!

I want Van Alden to turn hardcore gangster so bad.  I could see him becoming completely disillusioned with his life right now, and just saying "fuck it."  I'd like to see his cold demeanor used for evil.

That's just what I wanted to add, y'all pretty much covered everything else.

I'll be interested if Van Alden stays or if they've just written him out... It's gonna be a good episode tonight, they've built up a lot in Tue last couple episodes.

:awebig: So excited.

I agree with the last episode being some of the best stuff on TV. I felt like it was great how they kill off a main character and only then do you learn so much about her and Jimmy, their backstories and such. It was great character development, very subtle in almost every scene but everything builds.

SEASON FINALE NIKKAS

wow seriously epic.

I had a feeling as soon as he called it was his end, when he told richard to chill, and the look he gave his kid. But deep down I kinda hoped it wouldnt happen, I wanted richard to post up in the back maybe follow him there, but damn. I loved the following seen of him in the trenches. alksjdflkajsdf;lkjasdgk;lj fucking epic show.

looking back, i guess there was a lot of foreshadowing.

but up until the point nuck pulled the trigger i was convinced he'd get out somehow. thought either richard would show up and save the day or nucky would betray his brother and cap him.

heard there were some spoilers leaked thatd he would get popped, but i did not expect it whatsoever at the time..

really loved james. he was my favorite, but shit that was just so damn epic and shocking, im glad it happend. dude was on a suicide mission. he let other people manipulate him in his rise to power and when you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

the great tradgedy of it all is, eli was the one who had more a desire to kill nucky. the whole season, james was reluctant and by the time this episode rolled around he wanted to make things right. yet, somehow eli convinced nucky he was the true enemy and shit happens.

still cool we got to see a couple more james/richard badass moments before he was killed. them hitting up the clan meeting, then forcing neary to type his suicide note was fucking epic.

rip james. :yesnod:

After a lil postulating, that last few minutes were crazy. The way jimmy talks about how hard it is to take his first life, you can see in nuckys eyes that he has never actually pulled the trigger before, jimmy goes on to tell him how he vomited and was sick for a few days after wards. After nucky pulls the trigger, and the end is done, a few minutes later he walks in and appears to be just fine emotionally within his family. Kinda wild, it shows how cold and evil he really is.

and jimmy just being such a pimp about it, 'just breathe nucky' kinda talking him through it. fuck that was an amazing scene.

cant wait to see what happens next year. hope richard goes on a mission to avenge james.

Yeah I had a feeling that Jimmy was going to die soon as I saw him drunk and singing with Richard, my brain just clicked and it all came together in an instant. Really bummed though because he was such a perfect solider.........great hair too what a waste. I had a feeling earlier in the year he would die but I kind of thought he'd make it after his wife got killed. The horse scene with his boy and the WWI shot really satisfyed me as a viewer.
Nuck really surprised me on this episode, cant wait for next year.

"I am not seeking forgiveness"

I have a feeling that Eli will get his in the next season.

I was very sad to see Jimmy die but in the end he did try to have Nucky killed first, he let others manipulate him, he went to big too fast and couldn't handle it. The only way he could set things right was by dying, for his so, Nucky, and everyone else.

Great finale. I still wasn't expecting Jimmy to die, even after the first shot. I was like "Gee, he shot him in the face once, maybe he will reconside--..." I missed all the hints leading up to his death... Didn't expect it one bit.

Jimmy was a badass, though, such a badass it took a double tap to the head to kill him. Great show. Getting up there with Breaking Bad, already better than the Sopranos in my opinion.

I have a feeling that miss schroeder is going to be the real enemy next season, rothstein is going to get shot in the back of the head at some point, and we'll see the rise of al capone. atleast thats how I hope it works.

Jimmie died of what most gangsters do in the movies and real life too. He got too big for his britches. Botching those two hits and back pedaling is what fucked him the most. He should have handled the hits himself or let Richard help at least. In season one they were stone cold gangster/soliders.

I felt that way when I was watching halfway through the first season.  There's nothing dumb about this show.

I didn't see Jimmy's death coming at all.  I also thought that Eli was going to shoot Nucky with that shotgun after Nucky killed Jimmy.

And no one's said anything about Margret giving that land to the fucking church! :zomgwtf:

Nucky's gotta sack up and kill that triflin' ass ho.

He's such a weird looking motherfucker  but I love his one liners. Also, Van Alden is in Cicero, part of Chicago or Al Capone's territory. Now that Van Alden is on the run, will he go to the dark side? Man, his cold calculating demeanor would make him the ultimate gangster. I hope so.

They set Luciano up to be a dipshit. They gave Capone a lot more respect.

Lansky and Luciano should be stepping their game up in the next season.

Jimmy didnt care.  He basically wanted to die since he came back from the war.  Was never the same.  Like he said in his last scene.  "I died in the trench, years back."  Hence why he didnt bring Richard with, nor, brought a gun with him.

I agree, I just wanted him to hit Manny first regardless or wanting to die the whole series. I didn't want him to try to kill Nucky at all.......... I think it would be historically inaccurate if he died, plus he's the main character(and my favorite). Anyway I see Richard going lone wolf and mixing some shit up in season 3.
