my pet snake of 12 or so years diesd yesterday, a little sad but i knew she was nearing the end about a year ago so kinda relieved, i heard her moveing a lot, glanced into the room she's in and saw she was having some sort of fit, and about half an hour later she pretty much stoped moving. im thinking of preserving or "skeletonizing" her but cant seem to find any usfull info on doing so, has anyone here done it before or know where i can find out how or should i just go to my local bait store and buy a load of maggots? or i just find a place to bury her but id really like to give this a try

Dude, sorry for your loss. i have an 8ft diamond python about 5 years old and I know I will miss him when he goes. Its hard to let go of any friend.
When I used to collect skulls of dead animals (i was in the country and bored) I would either use maggots or ants to strip the flesh off them. With ants I would wrap the skull in chicken wire (Or whatever tight weave mesh you can get) and pin it to an ants nest with tent pegs. This was done so that no foxes or cats could steal it. The ants would strip every last piece of flesh away. The same can be done with maggots but putrefication may set in before the maggots are done eating. I found ants to be much more thorough, often using them after maggots had since given up. You could also try boiling all the flesh off, first you need to cut away all the flesh you can (Im sure this will be hard for you as you were close to her, it means nothing when it is just some random skull) and simmer the rest until all the flesh has been removed. This will not work if the are many soft or small bones as they may disintegrate in the process. Im sure you already tried the old google machine but here is some evidence to support my advice http://www.nhc.ed.ac.uk/index.php?page=4.7.14.16 and here is a method for preservation of a cleaned skeleton http://www.ehow.com/how_8541843_preserve-animal-skeletons.html
Hope you get to keep her forever man

my friend took her snake to a taxidermist after she died. she now has beautiful skin that has held up very well over time.

What you're referring to is called maceration. If you search "how to macerate bone", you'll probably come up with a lot more results.
Ants work well, and take little work.
Right now, I'm macerating a raccoon jaw in vinegar.
