are they worth it.....I got a call from a captioning company about my resume
anyone worked a gig like this?
they are looking for people who can work part/full time for 3-6weeks each financial quarter for editing conference call transcripts
I am reading business guidelines and terminology and structure of earning reports...this place is hiring people for the october quarter....so there is some training involved...
it pays $45 a transcript and if you work 6-8 hours a day you can edit 4-6 in a day easily

the job is going great and I am making about $17 an hour right now...the contract guarantees no less than $12.50 an hour if you take the maximum allotted time for an edit....I finish the edits in about 3/4 of the time...will get down to half and be able to do 3-4 edits a day and make $150-$250 for about 6 hours of work....not too bad for a work at home contract gig
essentially all I do is correct grammar and run spell check

Some "technical writing" positions are very "white-collar" and career-oriented. A good technical writer can make a 6-figure salary pretty easily.
It's also been rated as one of the highest job satisfaction rates: You can telecommute, work at home, and have pretty lax deadlines. I may transition over in a few years.

also rate goes up with a higher QC score
I just finished editing an hour long conference call...took me 2-2.5 hours...made $45...someone with a high QC score would have made $70 on the same call....I'm sure some of the editors at this company are making $300+ a day....
my contract with them is seasonal...4-5 weeks of work at the end of each financial quarter
I am a senior news/editorial major so this work is second nature; I hope I can find more opportunities like this during the quarters

About 2 years ago I was offered 75k for a technical writing position. That's my only experience with the field.

same way you get any other job...submit to corporate grooming and keep them from knowing anything human about you
but specifically I can tell you they are looking for people with backgrounds in writing and communications

$45 for 2+ hours of work does not seem like that great a deal.

Well, considering $45/2hr = $180/day, you're either doing very well for yourself, or are just talkin shit because this is the interwebs.
After taxes, healthcare, and all that other bullshit, I make $19.46/hr. And I'm very very happy with my job, its salary, and my prospects.
