sterilization vs. pastueriazation

just want some input from more experienced growers...
what's better: sterilization or astuerization for 50/50 casing?

I agree with zeronio. Also, the addition of a bit of lime to the casing has seemingly helped to reduce contams.

if it is ph balanced to 7-8 then there is no need to sterilize/pasteurize-you should be fine. the acidity/alkaline level is crucial when using peat because it is very acidic.

What?  :confused: Don't lead the new kids on the block astray.  One or the other is needed & any casing mixture should be pH tested & adjusted.

Otherwise you could add a casing mix RIPE with comtam's, gnats, gnat larva & nasty nemitodes. :frown: :frown: Not a good thing.

Either pasturization or sterilization works. Pasturization is what my foaf does with a casing mixture.
