They Made It Bad

Psychedelia: the entertainment zenith of pop culture. Sensory experiences occur simultaneously inside and outside the brain. Psychedelia teases the mind, inviting it to play with reality. It's all TOO beautiful.
It was too smart. They made it bad. They diluted psychedelia with drug addiction, psychosis, and irresponsibility. The lowest common denominator was soon reached. Psychedelia became a playground of the seven deadly sins.
Psychedelia: the intellectual zenith of pop culture. Mind blowing consciousness expansion makes you think. The doors of perception are open. Thinking is the best way to travel.
It was too smart. They made it bad. They diluted psychedelia with pop psychology, pseudo-occultism, and egocentric propoganda. The lowest common denominator was soon reached. Psychedelia became reinforcement of neurosis, alienation, and despair.
Psychedelia: the aesthetic zenith of pop culture. It interacts with perceptual systems, using new technology and new psychological information. Flowers and beads are one thing, but having a girl is something.
It was too smart. They made it bad. They diluted psychedelia with unprofessional obsessive doodling and insincere defeatist sentimentality. The lowest common denominator was soon reached. Psychedelia became decoration for food wrappers, B-movie posters, and anti-establishment paperbacks.
Psychedelia: the musical zenith of pop culture. Combining new ideas with expanding sound technology, it's techno-erotic. 'Tis then when the hurdy-gurdy man comes singing songs of love.
It was too smart. They made it bad. They diluted psychedelia with the blues, soul-musak, folk-rock, and so on. The lowest common denominator was soon reached. Psychedelia became a soundtrack for bad films, corprate radio, and intoxication rituals. They made it real bad.
-Micheal Andros, EXIT Magazine.
I transcribed that from a compilation of all of the copies of EXIT magazine, an AMAZING work of art with everyone from Adam Parfrey to Charles Manson sending in things to add. By far my favorite definition of what's happened to mind expansion and psychedelia in general.

Hippies, specifically. But really any stereotypical youth if you paraphrase.

when you say hippies, do you meen real hippies, or trend hoppers from when the psychedelic thing was popular? Theres a pretty big diference, and I think real hippies are doing a better job than anyone in keeping the ideals of psychedelic culture alive.

Depends on your definition of hippies, but it basically refers to the idiots who just wanted to get fucked up on brick weed and listen to Hendrix 24/7.
But SPECIFICALLY all of the people and groups and sub groups who diluted and disgraced psychedelia to the point where they destroyed everything that it stood for through irresponsibility, corporate infection, ad nauseum.

I think goes for any movement. You have your serious people and the people who do it because their mates and everyone else is.
I saw a documentary which showed some footage of hippies. One person was holding up a sign to the camara which read:
ACID + WEED
I think that about sums it up for me
-------------------- get it all together get like birds of a feather
