Meditative lifestyle

Are you keeping up meditative lifestyle?
Sometimes I feel that desires are taking lead of me and that brings me to somewhat dull mindstate after some time. Discipline really helps me with this. Also sitting in quietness and observing breath does the thing.
How do you deal with desires? And basically keep up happy lifestyle?

I don't identify with what's going on & simply exist as the space its all happening in, desires are playfully light if you don't identify with them, only when you solidly identify with it then attachment to the outcome is inevitable
Don't identify with anything, be like space

This is great. But, I dunno.. after some time mind wanders back and I forget that feeling of 'being like space'. I guess I have to just recall this feeling.

I've never sat down and meditated as an activity, but I try to "meditate" all the time, haha.

I try to think about what I could be doing instead of meditating, and from past experience I know following these desires don't bring me the same happiness as sitting does. I also try to follow the breath even when I'm doing other things other then sitting. That seems to help me. I guess don't be too hard on yourself, and just sit whenever possible.
For myself, I find following desires a bad habit as well. Especially when friends phone up, I can never seem to say no. I'm trying to keep up a meditative lifestyle, but I'm not very good at it. I guess it takes time, a little bit more practice each day.

Try to lighten up. I have this very playful attitude now. Consistency, time and reason are all kind of out the window. All this thought has just been thought, and the only proof that it happened is another thought. There's nothing to reflect on, nothing to hope for, merely there is the state of being about to laugh...

I am the same when i indulge in the pleasures of life for too long. It feels like there is a blur, like your not really living, its difficult to explain.
Dicipline has helped me immensely, i feel like i've gained more control over my actions and it has also helped bring a balance to my life.
I am learning to deal with desires by remembering what they have lead me to in the past. I think you really need to listen to your body and to the way you feel if you want to maintain a happy lifestyle. Its much easier than using your mind and keeping a planned out diet or schedule on how to live. Pay close attention to yourself and there will come about a natural balance. You will be able to enjoy everything without worrying about going too far or too low.

i think the most important thing to bring about the meditative view is the inner change of recognizing that outer conditions cannot bring true contentment. it isn't as important imo whether or not you go out into the world and do activities, but moreso it's about the inner detachment from expecting those activities to bring lasting happiness. this inner renunciation is a source of much peace and joy i find, and can prevent one from getting tangled up in things

Just riding the waves like a surf bum, knowing I can't control how large or how small the next wave will be nor what weather the next day will bring. All the same I have a good time surfing regardless

I hear you brother.
There have been times where I had a complete lack of motivation to sit down and meditate. I think some of it had to do with being an avid Cannabis consumer. All I wanted to do is smoke.
After I quit though I found a whole new light in meditation, and now I meditate anywhere from 1.5 - 2 hours/day, depending on the day of the week and how motivated I am.
Still, I face motivational challenges. A lot of times I think to myself "Let's go do this....oh wait, I haven't meditated yet...!", so instead of surfing for 1 more hour/sit in front of the TV, I'll go and do my meditation. Once I get started and I'm in a light (as in 'not heavy/deep') trance it's all good though and I enjoy channeling my energy through the chakras, etc.
It's like keeping up my 4-5 visits to the gym/week. There is days (like today) where I'm tired and I don't wanna do squat but lay on my bed, surf the net, and pass out. Still, I managed to get in a great workout and meditate for 2+ hours.
There is really nothing greater than a person's Will. If you don't feel motivated, Will yourself the motivation to sit down and meditate or at least *enter desired number* __ minutes. Control your mind, don't let it control you.
The spiritual path is never an easy one. You get out of it what you put in to it. You reap what you sow, basically. But it all pays off when you experience those delightful epiphanies/'aha-moments'/moments of spiritual insight.
Bless You

I do what comes naturally, that does not really include sitting meditation. I make an effort to ensure my imagination is active, that seems to come naturally. I'm on welfare, I eat when I'm hungry, sleep when tired, create when creative... never use will power or discipline. Everyday I do become highly aware of thoughts, memories and feelings, and I do try to direct these as naturally occurs. I kind of name what I'm getting in Mythological terms. Sadness and desire - Hela - Hades - Jourmingund, Inspiration the Soul of the World - deamons... This makes me feel like a bum/bludger but it just comes naturally.

Yeah, at the end you just have to do it without thinking

Why would you make such effort? I find it's much enjoyable when there are less thoughts in my head.

Does space forget the feeling of being like space? Does space suffer from the mind wandering about?

I can't take the silence, or more accurately, there is NO SILENCE. When there is, it is a silence of joy.
Joy sings the sound of chaos-maybe. I hear the most meaningful clamor of chaos and I want to project mind imagery to the naturally occurring soundtrack. Odhin the white buddha. Silence found within the noise. Full color spectrums. Skulls and knot-work unfolding in time. Pieces of dried skin masks falling.
