jar colonized ~97% - tiny white spots on exposed grain - contamination?
    #15055092 - 09/09/11 09:28 PM (9 years, 8 months ago)

cause i have a feeling it is. i took it out of the tub. sorry i dont have any pictures. theres no way in hell i could get a good close up picture of the jar and show you what im seeing.

its almost done colonizing, but if you look close at the rye berries that havent been consumed by mycelium, there are tiny white spots on the berries. never seen this before. its the only jar in that tub of 24 that has weird white spots.

ive never seen it, but im guessing its not good. does anyone know what this is? im going to let the jar continue doing its thing to see what happens. i think i'll most likely consider it a loss, sterilize the jar, and dispose of it. just use 5 jars instead of 6 in that tub. no biggie. better safe than sorry.

it could be pins, or it could be trich, I would need to see a picture to say for sure. how big are these "dots".

Yeast contamination.  Search that term in the contamination forum and you'll find lots of pictures of these dots.

the jar will be quarantined and sterilized tomorrow. theres no way in hell id open a contaminated jar anywhere in my place without first sterilizing it.
