In my humble opinion, this movie was total garbage. To each his own I guess.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to take a dig at you, but without at least a cursory knowledge of mystical symbolism I can see how someone might think this.

Limitless. I thought it was good but it didn't live up to my expectations. They could've done a lot more with it.

Weird how things sometimes just come together. I JUST finished watching Inception, actually listening to the end titles right now, and this is the first thread i clicked on.
I happen to love the movie though

I know nothing of mystical symbolism, so there you go. I've read only 2 books that approached the subject and it's The Doors of Perception by Huxley and This Book Needs No Title : A Budget of Living Paradoxes by Raymond Smullyan, and I've liked both a lot.
I just think that the people making the movie tried to achieve something bigger than they could produce. They tried too much, or too hard if you want, which really hurt the movie IMO. The film relays a lot on visual poetry (which is what cinema is about, among many other things) but I find that it relays ONLY on that, making the movie very uninteresting in other aspects. Some of my favourite things to feel in movies is the storytelling and the storyteller's ability to play with his art, within his art, to reach us on an emotional level and make us realise that the intellectual work we've had during the film was worth it. And The Holy Mountain did nothing of that to me. Or maybe I just don't understand Jodorowsky.
Now pardon me for interrupting, this thread shall continue it's normal course.

For the first time in quite a long while I've access to a proper cinema and have been indulging in a few shows lately...
Definitely see Melancholia. Weird and wild, with death anxiety written all over it. See it in the theatre if you can.
And Tree of Life.
And Drive.

Melancholia.
The one from 2006 or 2011?

the new one by Lars Von Trier. I've never seen the other.
As a bonus, Kirsten Dunst is nude, though in a very unsexy sort of way.

Should check out The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnasuss. Awesome movie. Very deep. It didn't get completely finished because Heath Ledger died in the middle of production, but they finished it with other actors in a comedic way.
It's a really good movie. All about battling with your desires. Takes a couple watches to completely get the whole plot and the whole concept.

Sometimes, I can watch a movie with a completely new perspective, and it becomes brand new: http://www.jayweidner.com/kubrick.htm Re: 2001: A Space Odyssey Another thoroughly alchemical film that I watched recently was Perfume: The story of a Murderer The Space Odyssey was supposed to be from Saturn to the Sun, but special effects couldn't produce realistic enough rings. This is the Odyssey from Lead to Gold, alchemically speaking. And like Perfume, it begins in darkness, and moves towards light.
These films question reality, social, mental, and even metaphysical: Oldies - Lord of the Flies (original B&W) Harold & Maude Brewster McCloud
Goodies - The Jonses, The Adjustment Bureau Source Code Inception Limitless
