[Bulk] Treasure Coast G2G Grow - Pinning, Mushrooms, & Harvesting * 2
    #15050287 -

Cubensis Strain: Treasure Coast
Jar Substrate: Organic Rye Berries - PC'd @ 15psi for 90 minutes
Tub Substrate: Botanicare Cocogro, Vermiculite, and Gypsum
Lighting: SunBlaze T5 44 - 6500K Grow Bulbs - 12/12 Cycle

September 5

Sometime within the past 2 weeks, I spawned 2 quart jars of Treasure Coast to 24 new jars. I'm spawning 1 jar to 12, because I use 6 jars of spawn per tub, so my plan is to turn 1 jar into 12 jars (2 tubs). Those jars are looking great. I'll be shaking the jars up in the next few days, then another week until I spawn to the tubs.

I just got done taking 3 completely colonized Treasure Coast jars and spawning them to 36 new jars. So at the moment, I have 60 jars colonizing.

September 7

Spawned the last of my TC jars. I took 2 jars and inoculated 23 new quart jars, and another TC jar and split it up between 4 spawn bags. Here are a couple pictures of all my Treasure Coast jars and bags I have going right now. I think in the next few days, I'll be spawning the first 24 jars to 4 tubs.

So now I have a total of 83 jars and 4 spawn bags. G2G done on different days, so some jars are further ahead than others. I plan on using 6 jars per tub for 78 of the 83 jars, then just use 5 jars for 1 more tub. Then I'll be using 2 spawn bags per tub. Since I have 4 spawn bags, that means I'll have another 2 tubs, for a total of 16 Treasure Coast tubs.

September 10

Looked through all 83 jars and 4 bags searching for any signs of contamination. Found one contamination that RR helped me diagnose as a yeast contamination. So that jar is out, and actually being sterilized at the moment. All the jars are colonizing. Some quicker than others. I did find a few jars colonized enough for me to shake up. So no majors losses. One jar isn't a big deal. And the spawn bags look great! I'm definitely using them again. They're pretty cool. I just need to learn how to properly sterilize them without bursting some of the rye berries.

September 12

Went through and looked at all TC jars and bags. I noticed a couple tiny dark spots in 2 or 3 of the bags. I'm not too concerned about it. I mixed all 4 bags up. I put quite a bit of spawn in each one, so they're growing pretty fast.

The first 24 jars I spawned to are all almost done. 12 of them actually are done, so I'm getting ready to put together 2 buckets of substrate today so I can spawn them tomorrow. The rest of my jars got shaken up today. So I'm guessing that in about 5-7 days I'll be doing a lot of work. Putting together lots of substrate and spawning jars to tubs. Definitely looking forward to it!!!

Figured I would take a few pictures while making some substrates to show my method. I'll be putting 3 tubs together tomorrow. 2 Treasure Coast and 1 PF Albino, which is a part of a separate grow going on at the same time. That grow can be found by clicking the PF Albino Grow link in my signature. I split the grow up by strain to keep track of everything easier for my grow logs. So, in these pictures, you'll see 3 buckets, but I'm only using 2 of them for Treasure Coast.

How I Make My Substrate:

First I take my 5 kilo block of Botanicare Cocogro and break it up into smaller pieces on a garbage bag. I weigh out 650 grams of coir and put in 1 gallon zip lock bags until needed. I dump one bag in a 5 gallon bucket and break up as much as possible by hand. Then dump in 2 quarts of vermiculite and a half cup of powdered gypsum. I put the lid on the bucket and shake around for a minute to get everything mixed together evenly.

Coir:Coir+Vermiculite+Gypsum:All mixed up:

Then I dump 1 gallon of boiling water into each bucket and put the lid on. Then wait 24 hours so it cools off enough to dump into tubs and spawn jars.

How I Make My Tubs:

I use Clear Stacks' 11 gallon/44 quart clear plastic tubs, and use a 2" circular drill bit to drill 1 hole on each end up the tub, and 2 holes on each long side of the tub. I try to drill them so the bottom of the hole is about 5 inches from the bottom of the tub, so it ends up being slightly above the top of the substrate.

I stuff the holes with enough polyfil to allow the tubs to breath a little bit. I also add a garbage bag to the inside of the tub so I can reduce side pinning. I just take a large black trash bag and cut around all 4 corners which makes 2 sheets of plastic to use. I lay the plastic sheet in the tub and flatten the bottom out so i know it has enough room, then tape the sides up and wipe the entire inside down with alcohol.

Then when the time is right, I can just dump the bucket of substrate into the tub along with my spawn jars, and mix up thoroughly, followed by a nice misting before labeling, putting the lid on, and moving to consolidation for 10 days.

September 17

Spawned 30 jars to 6 tubs, labeled, and put into my closet with the rest of them to consolidate. Jars are starting to disappear, and tubs are starting to stack up! I love the feeling of going from one phase to another. All the jars are being washed and put back in storage, and some of the jar lids are in need of some repair.

One Treasure Coast tub with one PF Albino Tub from my other grow:

September 19

I set up my fruiting room today. I decided against using natural light. I want total control over how much light and what kind of light my tubs get. So I covered the windows with Panda film and installed four 4 foot T5s hooked up to a digital timer set to 12/12. I plan on stacking the tubs on these 2 boards, 3 tubs wide by 3 tubs high, including the PF Albino tubs from my separate but also current grow.

I have no jars or spawn bags left. I spawned my last 5 jars to 1 large tub tonight, and my only spawn bag that made it into a small tub.

And 2 of these are PF Albinos:

I have 1 Treasure Coast tub fruiting, along 14 large tubs and 1 small tub colonizing in my closet. They will be put into fruiting in the next 7-10 days.

September 23

I've avoided misting the tub that I recently put in fruiting, and because of that I've allowed the substrate to dry up, which, pretty quickly, caused pins to start forming. Seems like this is the fasted I've gotten pins before. I think I've always had to wait 1-2 weeks for pins because my sub has been covered in beads of water. I had read that surface evaporation is the most important pinning trigger, so that's why I let the tubs dry out on their own a bit. I didn't get any pictures of the tub to post. Nothing too exciting quite yet. The next week should be very interesting.

I also lost a tub today. The spawn was obviously contaminated. I don't know what it was though. The tubs have been in the closet since I put them together, so I decided to go through them and see how they were doing. Then I ran into one that was colonizing, but every one of the rye berries that are on the surface of the substrate turned yellowish/gold. I isolated that tub and will dispose of later today.

Update:

The light is off for the day, so I pulled out 3 tubs that are scheduled to go into fruiting tomorrow. (September 24) I pulled the polyfil out of the tubs to allow surface evaporation to trigger the pin set. Polyfil may be put back in holes later in the grow if the substrate dries out too much. I still have 10 more large tubs and 1 small tub to fruit. The introduction into fruiting conditions for the remaining tubs will happen over the course of a week.

I took the polyfil out of the first Treasure Coast tub that I fruited, and along with fanning numerous times throughout the day, I saw pins on day 4 of fruiting. They're starting to pop up now, so I took a picture of what I have so far. I'm guessing in a week I'll be harvesting mushrooms, so that means I'll have the pictures everyone wants to see. But for now, I've got these:

Not the best up close shots. Some bluing on one of the tubs, but its definitely not a contamination.

September 25

Fruited another tub today. I put the polyfil back in all the other tubs today too. I felt like the tubs weren't staying as humid as they should have been. I'll just stick to fanning.

Tub #1 is 7 days into fruiting and has a decent little pin set. Not canopy material or anything, but there are clusters forming.

September 28

First tub I fruited is at the point of harvest. Not the best pin set, but hey, I'm doing the best I can.

I'm also starting to get pins in other tubs. I have 4 more tubs still consolidating. (And 3 of these tubs are the PF Albinos)

October 4

Starting to get some nice pinning in 8 or 9 tubs. The others aren't far behind. This time around on this grow, I didn't mist after I put the tubs into fruiting. I just fanned a lot, and took the polyfil out for a couple days on some of them. Just doing some experiments. Once the substrate dries up a bit, it starts pinning. I got a way better pinset on these tubs versus the first tub I fruited that I already harvested mushrooms from.

The first flush is almost done on the first tub I fruited. I've harvested just under 3 ounces dry from that tub. It had a weak pinset, so judging by what the rest of the tubs look like, I'll be pulling at least 4, hopefully 5 dry ounces per tub.

Here are some pics of the tubs with something interesting to look at. Lots of pins. Can't wait to see them in 5-7 days.

October 9

I've harvested quite a bit of mushrooms today and last night. So far, I have 9 dry ounces, and I have some in my dehydrator that will be done in the morning. Then, tomorrow I'll have a bunch more mushrooms to pick. I fruited my tubs at different times so things are going in cycles it seems. I'll post a shot tomorrow of some of the final dried product.

I use an Excalibur 3900 dehydrator. I take out however many trays I have to so I can dry the mushrooms in perfect condition without having the break them and squish them up to fit like you do with cheap dehydrators. Also, I clean the bottoms of the mushrooms off before drying. Most of the time I slice a piece of the bottom off to get all the soil off.

Anyway, here are some pictures. I'll post more tomorrow of a tub before harvest, after harvest, and after they are completely dehydrated. For some reason, a lot of these mushrooms are doing some weird cap thing where they kinda break and look like stars. They look like they're going to be some nice mushrooms. They've got that nice feel to them.

This tub is crazy. The 2 spots where there are clusters popping up, already had 2 decent sized single mushrooms growing there. I harvested them, and in just a couple days I had clusters popping up where the original mushrooms had been picked off the substrate. They're going to be some nice clusters in a couple days.

If it were myself, I'd further G2G those last five jars :-)  You'll have empty jars by then.

no hepa or any other kind of filter. i used a glove box to do the G2G. took a while, but i got it done. wish i had a flowhood. some day i'll build one. probably after this grow.

thanks! ive got some pf albinos going too at the same time, so ill have 2 separate logs going at once. a treasure coast grow, and a smaller pf albino grow.

(only thing im worried about is not having enough dehydrators to dry all my mushrooms!!!)

well this is kinda shitty. i mixed up my spawn bags the other day, and before i mixed them up, i looked over them pretty well to see if i saw any contamination. i saw a few spots on 2 or 3 of the 4 bags, but figured id mix them up anyway. well i took a look today and it looks like a few tiny spots of a green shade of something. green mold or trich (those are 2 different things, right?)

so idk what to do now. i guess ill see how much it spreads. ill probably toss the contaminated bags out and just fruit the only safe bag in a smaller tub, cause i was shooting for 2 bags per 1 large tub. so, 1 bag will take care of my mini tub just fine.

this is my first time with bags, so im not too upset about getting a contamination. live n learn. i do really like the bags though. ive got a few more and im going to try throwing some together again in the near future.

I don't know what your weather will be like, over the next few weeks; but...  You could always work up a tub outdoors  Just keep it in an area free of direct prevailing winds and minimize how much direct sunlight.

I dumped some spawn that i found questionable in a small planter and just covered with a thin layer of soil and verm and water it when it looks dry. Pins came out today. Previously I had just thrown them away. Interesting to see the difference of similar genetics grown indoor and outdoor.

put a bunch of tubs together today. i have enough jars to make 3 more large tubs, and 1 spawn bag that i'm going to use on a small tub with half a batch of coir/verm/gypsum.

so after tomorrow, all my jars will be empty, and ill have a closet more full of tubs than it already is. then i play the waiting game, and keep fanning and misting the tubs i have fruiting now. will update when all the tubs are made and in my closet consolidating.

im glad im not getting any stupid comments on my grow logs. so far everyone has been really cool. hope it stays like that!!! thanks!
