Burnin' CD's
    #1489247 - 04/24/03 01:57 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

When I make a CD from audio files, does it matter what the quality of the original file is?

If I make a CD with a 360 or 1411 kbs version of a song, will it sound better than one made with a 128 kbs version?

Yes, at higher bit-rates less aliasing occurs so it is a truer representation of the orignal. However at bit-rates higher 256Kbps it is difficult for the human ear to notice any difference.

1411, im not even sure if that's it.. but that is a wav file. What you need to play on most cd players. Mp3 is most commonly at 128 and will sound fine. Once you go below like 96 u can start to hear some deterioration

yes. it will sound better.

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

Yeah, the higher the bit rate the better the sound quality.I can't tell the difference between anything over 160 kb/s and a CD,but I play guitar,so I have a decent "ear".The average person probably can't tell the difference between anything 128 kb/s and over and a CD.

People think that if you just say the word "hallucinations" it explains everything you want it to explain and eventually whatever it is you can't explain will just go away. It's just a word,it doesn't explain anything...

whenever i make mp3s i stick to 160 kbps. maybe it's just in my head, but i think i can tell the difference between that and 128.

however, if i download at 128 i am completely willing to make that into a cd. anything less... probably not.

if i'm just straight copying from cd to cd-r, though, i always just stick to wav.
