help
    #15039322 - 09/06/11 06:07 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Alright so last night I was trying to download a game on my computer and I needed to make some room on my hard drive. So I was deleting a bunch of bullshit and then came across a "Realtek" sound something. Unfortunately I deleted it, and now I can't hear anything coming out of my speakers. I think this was a driver or something. I'm pretty sure this was the only sound related thing I deleted. And today when I turned on my computer there was no sound coming out of the speakers

I was wondering if anyone could help me get my sound back or atleast point me in the right direction.

any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If you know the mfg./model of the PC or motherboard then you could just search on google.  Alternatively, you may try clicking start -> type "device manager" -> open device manager -> find sound(probably sorted alphabetically) -> right-click sound -> go to driver and see if you can roll-back or if Windows will find it.

There are a lot of ways really.

I went to the control panel and clicked sound and audio devices. Its saying that there is no audio  devices plugged in. I unplugged and plugged my speakers back in, but got nothing. I even tried 2 system restores, one to about a week ago and the other to last month. still nothing.

I'm pretty computer retarded, if you can't tell. how can i fix this?

Unless you have Windows 7, you don't. If you do, there is only one place you can type things in the start menu. It's the box that has "search programs and files" written in it.

If you have XP, left click on "start", right click on "My Computer", select "properties". You'll find the "Device Manager" tab there.

Haha, yeah, fresh install certainly helps with Windows. Glad you got the sound working  Be sure to update/install the graphics card driver as well if you haven't done so already, otherwise you'll likely experience bad video/3D performance.

Buy an external drive so you can keep a backup of all your important files.
