Pressure cooking vs NOT
    #1503799 - 04/29/03 09:19 AM (20 years, 10 months ago)

My friends dogs mouse wants to do about 24 pint size jars at once. He does not have a massive pressure cooker and does not have an entire day to do it. He does have a very large pot that can fit about 12-14 jars in it. How much time should he leave them in for and will this be just as safe as if he were to pressure cook it? Does he make the water boil and just boil the jars for 1-2 hours? Any help I can give him would save him some serious time. Thanks!

Whats your substrate?  If you're using grain of some kind you need to pressure cook it.

If you're doing PF cakes (BRF/verm/water) you can steam them all.

Just get a few pots, put them on all the burners on your stove and get them up and running   If they are PF cakes, you should steam them for an hour to an hour and 15 minutes.

He is going to use BRF. Sounds great I will tell him to give it a go for 1 hour and 15 mins. Thanks for your help.

50 minutes is the key amount....My friend has done around 80brf and 0 contams...

Bring the water to a boil..then get to medium, heat...so it still boils but mostly steams....and let it go!
