I think that it may be American forces just don't have much experience at the real thing. Unlike Canadian forces who have been doing United Nations Peace Keeping in nasty war zones for forty years US troops are trained quickly and sent off to action, licensed to kill each other. Because we have such a small armed forces our people get a few months off then get back on a plane and are in some other God forsaken combat zone year after year. All Canadian Forces personnel are experienced veterans and almost all US forces people are reservists....but that's just my own biased opinion.

Those pilots are going through the legal process right now. The point of failure will be found and addressed.
Unfortunately, somer error IS realistic, and in this business error kills people. Soldiers, cops, firefighter, they occasionally fuck up and there are terribly consequences. Realistically it is going to happen a small percentage of the time. Being well trained greatly reduces incidents, but nothing is ever going to eliminate human error altogether.
Competent and perfect are not the same thing.

Actually yes I do see a problem with it.

No....it was far from accident...let me put in to an analogy. Take the richest person in the world (we'll use Bill Gates) and think how he got to be that rich and powerful...was it from just being a super nice guy that everyone liked?..Hardly...it was from stepping on alot of toes and pissing off alot of people. It's exactly the same thing.

And nobody was killed during those operations? There is a steady trickle of bad news out of Bosnia. That doesn't mean they are incompetent, it means they have a horrible situation to deal with, and reality is harsh.

I would hardly call Bill Gates incompetent. There are plenty of bad things to say about him, but that is not one of them.

I'll have to look that up, but I know for a fact that civilians were killed due to peacekeeper inaction on many occasions. Not necessarily Canadian, mind you.
Friendly fire incidents in the Iraqi campaign were amazing low compared to anything in the 20th century, btw.

"Realistically, though, we field the best trained army in history."
oh wow that's really something to be proud of... we also have the most expensive army in history as well.
"We must have grown into the sole superpower by accident."
wow thats really something to be proud of too; not allowing anybody to equal our power - talk about a worldwide dictator

The only thing I have been arguing here is against this statement:
Quote:
One thing this war has done is show the incompetence of the average US soldier.
So the Bill Gates analogy doesn't fit. You didn't call hiim incompetent, but you are comparing apples and oranges.
