Labor Day Finds
    #15036166 - 09/06/11 03:55 AM (9 years, 8 months ago)

The girlyfriend and I took a mushroom photo trip today following the rains from Tropical Storm Lee. Unfortunately we didn't find nearly as much as we were expecting, which was kind of strange. We managed to find five different species of fungi growing, two of which we brought home to make sporeprints. The first was growing all over the place around town, the other we only found one of, but it was different so we took it as well.

Enjoy the pics :smile: If you'd like to try and ID them that'd be cool, too.

For all mushrooms:
Location: S. Louisiana
Weather: 71F, rather cool outside, notedly drier than the past few days.

#1
Dimensions:
Height=1.7in (43mm) tall
Stipe=1.5in (38mm) tall, .3in (7.5mm) wide
Pileus=1.5in (38mm) wide

Habitat: Grassy lawns around town

Gills: Brown, medium spacing-relatively spaced, esp. compared to the other mushroom.

Pileus: Cream/yellow/light brown colored, cap was textured, flat with the middle part just barely poking up.

Stipe: White, hollow, silky - similar to the caps of psilocybes. Looks to have some brownish streaks in various spots/under various light.

Bruising: Not observed

Sporeprint color: Brown

-=-=-=-=-

#2

Dimensions:
Height= 2.8in (71mm) tall
Pileus= 1.2in (30.5mm) wide
Stipe= 2.1in (53.5mm) tall, .3in (7.5mm) wide

Gills: Lightish brown, closely spaced

Pileus: White/pale cream, convex to slightly campanulate

Stipe: White, hollow, silky - again similar to psilocybe stipes, with brown streaks.

Bruising: Not observed

Sporeprint color: Brown

-=-=-=-=-

The other three, we have pictures of but no ID/sporeprint

1. Marasmius oreades
2. Maybe Psathyrella sp.? I would guess maybe Volvariella sp., but the brown spore print doesn't fit.
3. Maybe Conocybe apala
4. Not sure
5. Polyporus squamosus

:cheers:

Oreganic: #1 cannot be Marasmius oreades, as its sporeprint is brown.

Pretty sure yall are right on the polyporus genus, dunno about the species but possibly. This one was pretty dark in color, and rather hairy, having an interesting texture to it.

Hmm.. true - the spacing on the gills made me think M. oreades - but I could see that just being a matured Agrocybe praecox. A. praecox seems likely.

yeah I'm sortakinda leaning towards A. praecox for #1, the only deterrent is that almost all of the mushrooms found of that species had quite flat caps (minus the bulge in the middle), whereas online pics show the younger specimens as having a more rounded appearance. 'Tis a bit hard to tell.

johnnyblaze2316: I don't think the 2nd species can be pluteus or volvareilla, since both of those genera have pink/salmon spores. This one has brown spores.

I think #2 could be Inocybe.

Perhaps..I didn't get sporeprints of that one, so those two pics are all we have to go by on that.
