I took Microsoft exam 70-680: TS: Windows 7, Configuring today and passed it with a 863/1000. Overall I spent a lot of time studying for the exam and I took a college course on the subject. Up next I am working on A+ and N+ certifications.

Yes I am planning being a computer repair guy of some sort, I want to start off doing a help desk job and then moving up to a HIGHER lever job like a system administrator.
Recently, I had a paid internship working for a website. I assisted the data center manager with server maintenance and setting up new servers, but I spent most of the time working there not doing anything because we were waiting for parts, and other delays.

With all due credit Imachavel is a smart dude! But I am pretty wise myself. I was in the Marines for 8 years where I worked on heavy equipment, and have 60 college credits, so fixing a small 12 volt computer really isn't that hard. If I wasn't getting paid good money to go to school from the GI Bill I would quit school and just read books and study to pass a hand full of certifications and find a job.

In the IT field you need to have a solid background of college, certifications, and hands on experience in order to get a high paying job.
I was thinking about quitting school because I have realized college is just a system of taking BS classes I dont need, so they can suck your pockets dry. For instance I have to take a basic electronics course, but my back ground as a heavy equipment mechanic has taught me plenty of electrical. But I am going to milk the GI Bill for every red cent I can get out of it.

Certificates are worthless. Anybody that can memorize can get certified in any IT field.

College is worthless. Anybody can pay the University of Phoenix for an online education.
I am not going there, I attend a technical college.

they are worthless in terms of showing expertise. anyone that can get a cert, can obviously memorize, and be a complete moron. but it doesn't mean it won't help you get an interview. it will get you into some good interviews, keeping the job however, really won't help though. without experience, you will be looked down upon if you know nothing about what you are doing. now if you have an a+, mcitp, ccna, maybe you can get some basic help desk, bench tesk job, and get some good experience. experience of course, is key. if you can't set up email who is going to hire you to set up an apache server, or monitor active directory?? cmon

Congrats. I just bought that book to work on MCITP. Net+ is interesting and helped me land a remote help desk job. This is a good field and there seems to be a lot of heads out there working on contract.
I got CCNA and landed a great installation-type job. The networking exams builds on the previous exam and they're needed in a lot of the better paying IT jobs. A+/Net+ seemed like one tier and CCENT/CCNA was the next tier. Lots of certs in this area.
