peroxide and mycelium question

I thought that a 3% peroxide solution would kill mycelium. Would this method work?

I see no reason why this would not work. The quart jar contains a great deal of moisture in the form of soaked grain so the 12 cc of peroxide would be diluted to a safe level by the grain before it had time to do its damage. This should work for a mycelium inoculation but I would not expect it to work for spores.

I have tried the proceedure with success. As woodrow explained, the peroxide is diluted once injected into the grain jar.

this method, though with less volume of %7 peroxide so as not to upset the moisture ratio too much, can also be used after inoculation, such as might be done to hedge odds against an outbreak of a particualr contam in the incubator.

[note: if used in the above scenario it may, in theory, kill some of the mycelium present before dispersion of the H2O2 into solution with the water present, so shaking is nesecary.]

I would also suggest lowering the temp in conjunction with your treatment as bacteria grow slower at lower temps.

thanks guys, i guess i was thinking more of spores being killed from the peroxide. but i guess i could see it working with a myc agar culture
