I live next to a Russian market. I've woken up from drunk benders and discovered empty fish cans in my kitchen. I don't speak Prostitute, so I have no idea what kind of fish it is. I think drunken me goes for the graphic design.

I just tried a sardine for the first time a couple of weeks ago.  It didn't taste bad, but the bones were weird to me.  I didn't eat a whole one, just a bite.  I also didn't get any of the bone.  Do you eat the head/eye, as well?  My friend was eating it on cracker with hot sauce, but I didn't pay attention.

the bones just disintegrate into food. but it's a acquired taste... to bite into a whole fish.

but in most cases... this is completely wholesome food.

there is a whole scene of tinned foods, in Italy, and it's done to a degree of perfection.

to get all the flavor right... is the key. the bones is a little weird... the scales and eyes and yeah... it's weird but if you're not squeamish, it can be delectable.

you just gotta ignore the obvious... oddity of eating a whole fish.

Yeah, the taste was good.  I'm not sure what flavor these were.  The hardest part is the fact of eating a whole fish.  Maybe I can get them and just eat up to the eyes and throw the head away, haha.  I don't like tuna too much, though.  The sardines tasted much better to me.

sardines are kind of a staple...

but yeah, just bite below the head... remove food, and eat... and discard the head. :awesome: (i know this kinda sounds gross, but i might try it someday as well, good luck to all that bite into whole fish!)

Okay this is the second time in a day that I have had to tell people this little known fact about mercury.  You can only get the poisoning from inhaling vapors.  NOT from ingesting it orally.  If you eat mercury you will poop it out.

That is definitely not true.
Dude. There have been whole villages in Japan of people born with severe birth defects and mutations and shit from mercury poisoning from eating dolphin meat. (Dolphins having one of the highest concentrations of mercury from all the other fish they eat).

The consumption of fish is by far the most significant source of ingestion-related mercury exposure in humans and animals, although plants and livestock also contain mercury due to bioaccumulation of mercury from soil, water and atmosphere, and due to biomagnification by ingesting other mercury-containing organisms

Consumption of mercury and other toxic heavy metal will build up and accumulate in your body tissue over time. There are ways of eliminating it though, such as high consumption of seaweed.

Don't spread misinformation.

Maybe they are cooking the tuna...

I made the aforementioned statement because I knew a kid who put mercury in a pepper shaker at a fast food restaurant.  He had a vial the size of a film can.  He was playing with the stuff for like 6 months.  Touching it and all sorts of goofy things.  He didn't get poisoning.  He was charged with a felony for putting foreign objects into edibles, and 1st degree reckless endangerment of safety.  His lawyer filed a motion to drop the latter charge based on mercury poising is from inhaling not ingesting.
I'm open to new ideas though...
First link looks like obvious propaganda from the save the dolphin people... damn hippies..

I stand corrected...

First link is 42,000 search results.

There are also different kinds of mercury.
The story about the kid is dealing with elemental mercury.
Which is not readily absorbed through ingestion and skin contact.
Elemental mercury is where the vapors are harmful.
There is also inorganic mercury, mercuric cyanide and organic mercury.

Japan is by far the largest consumers of fish.
However they don't have a higher concentration of mercury poisoning compared to the rest of the world,
Only in a few isolated incidents where people/children in small villages were fed dolphin and whale meat, containing 20-50x the amount of safe mercury levels.
Some think this is due in part to their very high consumption of seaweed, algae products and other foods, which is said to assist with eliminating heavy metals from the body.
