Trans-pore tape, not PC compatible
    #15009991 - 09/01/11 02:53 AM (9 years, 8 months ago)

EDIT: the tape in question was trans-pore tape, and will not survive the PC.

I wanted to post this because I had done a search earlier, and several posts indicated micropore tape could withstand the PC. It may be that certain brands of micropore tape will withstand pressure cooking at 15 PSI, but not all of them. Mine melted.

I was out of tyvek and wanted to get the job done tonight. I suppose I should have tested the material first, as it would have saved me several gallons of bird seed. No big loss, but be warned.

I'm curious if anyone reading this knows of a brand of micropore tape that will withstand the PC.

Micropore tape CAN indeed withstand PC temps. Micropore, technically, is the 3M trademark for paper tape. I've only used the 3M brand tape, but any equivalent paper tape should work just the same.

I'm with awakendone... sounds like you got the Transpore (plastic tape) by mistake.

How were you using it in place of Tyvek, anyway? The Tyvek squares I use have to be roughly 5"x5" in order to cover the jar opening. The widest Micropore (or Transpore) tape I've ever come across was about 2" wide.

You put a piece of micropore tape over the inoculation/GE holes, not over the whole lod

Theres only one kind of micropore tape. Its called 3M Gentle Paper Tape for consumers, and 3M Micropore tape for commercial uses.

I did a search for trans-pore tape, and that's exactly what it was. It had been sitting around for years and I just assumed it was micro-pore.

Thanks for the clarification.
