In spirit of an older thread revived, I feel the urge to share a torrent for those of you interested in films such as these. here's an example:
These films are so beautiful i can't really understand how anyone would NOT like them..they carry such a beautiful feeling..I can sit and watch and be pulled into a trance state of love and longing. I wish I could've been friends with these guys,,((and girls)).
I can't help but appreciate these so much, considering what films are being put out today. I suggest watching on mute and adding your own music, I usually play sigur ros, or some form of post-rock. It is unbelievable how organicly the music will sync with the film.
Anyways here's a link to download 5+ hours of these beautiful motion pictures. They are literally that. (if you would like a demonoid invite, let me kno) www.demonoid.me/files/details/2129783/006392119302
I recommend purchasing it online if you like it. http://www.amazon.com/Avant-Garde-Experimental-Cinema-1920s/dp/B0009PW450
cheers

Un Chien Andalou is worth checking out. One of the better avant garde films of the era it has a famous scene with an eyeball being cut out with a straight razor. It was later show to be a cow's eyeball but the technical merit of the shot looking so convincing is a testament to how they approached film at the time. Salvador Dali directed it or something. Maybe wrote it? IDK. Dali got into film tho

That was a cool film to watch indeed. And yeah, Dali co-wrote it only (Luis Bunuel directed). It's one of the first films to be created under the surrealism genre. They're goal was to reproduce imagery that was similar to what you experience in dreams.

C'est le premier film sans scenario.
Thanks. Haven't seen much stuff like this before, but very interesting. I think films should be images before they attempt to be anything else (like telling a story or whatever)

Lest we not forget the RE-re-release of Metropolis !!
And this (not my link) is the 1980's 'rock version' with Pat Benatar, Freddie Mercury, etc musicians from that era. But either way, with such an epic movie, you could really just turn the sound down and it would still make perfect sense.

One of my favorites is Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages. Great film, I love the portrayal of The Devil.
