Neurotransmitter Junkies * 1
    #15007385 - 08/31/11 03:32 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Serotonin regulates mood, appetite, and sleep. Tryptamine. Located in the gut and CNS. Derived from tryptophan and 5-HTP

Dopamine associated with the reward system. Fired while gambling, eating, finding love. Phenethylamine. Located in the substantia nigra, ventral tegmental area, and hypothalamus. Derived from L-tyrosine.

Endorphine gives feeling of well being. Fired during exercise, pain, orgasm, spicy food consumption. Endogenous Opioid Peptide. Endogenous-Morphine or Endorphine meaning morphine like substance originating from the body.

Melatonin hormone of darkness. Tryptamine. Secreted by pineal gland.

Oxytocin love hormone. Reduced paranoia.

Norephinephrinethe fight or flight response, directly increasing heart rate, triggering the release of glucose from energy stores, and increasing blood flow to skeletal muscle. It increases the brain's oxygen supply. Fired by locus coeruleus.

"What's happening as you're watching this Chrysanthemum is that millions and then hundreds of millions of DMT molecules are rushing into these serotonin bond sites in the synaptic cleft and disrupting the serotonin and switching the electron spin resonance signature of these neural junctions in this "other" direction. And this is taking, you know, 30 or 40 seconds, and there's this rising hum"

i'm not sure what exactly that means, but the part about the dmt molecules switching the electron spin resonance sounds pretty freaking neat.

i want to get my neurowatevers all lop-sided spinning and some junk!

hey that was actually kind of cool, i never knew serotonic was a tryptamine and dopamine was a phenethylamine. maybe that can explain a bit of the experiences one has on these substances a bit

and why is it that dopamine is located in the substantia nigra, even god was a racist

damn. well, it still makes me feel better about my decisions to take psychedelics, how bad can they be when the drugs i sometimes may choose to take are of the same type/family as my own neurochemistry? it's not like methamphetamine and things that are just totally not meant for human consumption

GHB is endogenous to the body but you don't see people apply the same logic you're using right now towards it.

but thats my point, it was designed, i may be incorrect in saying this but it doesnt occur naturally (??)

but what i was getting at is, tryptamines and phenethylamines don't have alot of the drawbacks that ghb/meth etc do, they are already used by your body naturally and created within your body, so i don't really see how they can do much harm, where as ghb/meth can do a fair bit of harm

i'm not a drug elitist or meth/ghb hater, even if they are not 'meant' for human consumption, they are certainly 'fit' for human consumption. cos i'm human (or atleast i think i am) and i have consumed them thangs many times :yesnod:

meth pipes were actually designed to burn oil and incense and things, but them resourceful meth heads got a hold of them and the rest is history

I did overreact anyhow, i'm a bit agressive when it comes to defending GHB

And you are right; the endogenous argument doesn't prove anything as GHB is still exotoxic(!) in high doses (whilst not at all in lower doses...) . Quite frightening actually...

I always like to portray it as innocent whilst it is mostly not; GHB withdrawals are as bad as opiate ones. (or so I have heard)

a neurotransmitter is just a chemical that alters the flow of various ions into and out of the cell.

it would probably be more accurate to say that the relative configuration of the chemical-ion-soup and its proportionality to the total energy potential corresponds to the state of consciousness you experience

just because a drug is phenethylamine derivative for example means very little. phenethylamine, in the broad sense (not referring to PEA itself) is just a naming convention that clues you in to the broad molecular structure of the drug. These drugs can do all sorts of things. here is a brief list from wikipedia:

Quote:

Substituted phenethylamines, substituted amphetamines, and substituted methylenedioxyphenethylamines (MDxx) are a series of broad and diverse classes of compounds derived from phenethylamine that include stimulants, psychedelics, and entactogens, as well as anorectics, bronchodilators, decongestants, and antidepressants, among others.

yeah buddy, don't worry, i'm well versed with ghb , gbl and 14b :smirk:, i know what you mean though, alot of people have no idea about ghb and just class it as fucked instantly without having any clue about it or how to use it responsibly.

but i am of the understanding, i may be wrong, that ghb withdrawals can be particularly nasty, like benzo and alcohol withdrawals, where you can actually die from stopping cold turkey. this is an unsupported opinion though

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this yet, but - methamphetamine is short for methyl-alpha-methyl-phenethylamine. Amphetamines are phenethylamines, just like many psychedelics.

But to get back on topic, my favorite neurotransmitter is oxytocin. :happyheart:

Gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN; the burning, stabbing pain or aches that may last for months or years after an attack of shingles). Gabapentin extended-release tablets (Horizant) are used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS; a condition that causes discomfort in the legs and a strong urge to move the legs, especially at night and when sitting or lying down). Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves the pain of PHN by changing the way the body senses pain. It is not known exactly how gabapentin works to treat restless legs syndrome i am diabetic i take it for nerve pain.Gabapentin is also sometimes used to relieve the pain of diabetic neuropathy (numbness or tingling due to nerve damage in people who have diabetes)I was put on it for being diabetic.

Anandamide, also known as N-arachidonoylethanolamide or AEA, is an endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter. It was isolated and its structure was first described by Czech analytical chemist Lumír Ondřej Hanuš and American molecular pharmacologist William Anthony Devane in 1992. The name is taken from the Sanskrit word ananda, which means "bliss, delight", and amide.
...
Anandamide is also important in the regulation of feeding behavior, and the neural generation of motivation and pleasure. In addition, anandamide injected directly into the forebrain reward-related brain structure nucleus accumbens enhances the pleasurable responses of rats to a rewarding sucrose taste, and enhances food intake as well.
...
Anandamide has shown to impair working memory in rats.

Amphetamine is almost as closely related to dopamine as DMT is to serotonin.

Of course, psychedelics still have the leg up, because DMT is actually a neurotransmitter. :whoa:

but thats my point, it was designed, i may be incorrect in saying this but it doesnt occur naturally (??)

but what i was getting at is, tryptamines and phenethylamines don't have alot of the drawbacks that ghb/meth etc do, they are already used by your body naturally and created within your body, so i don't really see how they can do much harm, where as ghb/meth can do a fair bit of harm

i'm not a drug elitist or meth/ghb hater, even if they are not 'meant' for human consumption, they are certainly 'fit' for human consumption. cos i'm human (or atleast i think i am) and i have consumed them thangs many times :yesnod:

meth pipes were actually designed to burn oil and incense and things, but them resourceful meth heads got a hold of them and the rest is history

Just a bit of shinfo, meth does occur in plants like acacia berlandieri.  http://www.erowid.org/references/texts/show/7160docid7427

Just like methylenedioxymethamfetamine resembles methamfetamine so much?

A drug is as good as your receptor gets

I see drugs as a bunch of receptor affinities but there is so much more to it. Looking at the drug in isolation is not very useful so one has to take into account the state of the system he is abusing. Personally I'm a serotonin junkie because I hate craving dopamine related compounds (except for weed :hehehe:)

Though i'm more of a dopamine junkie, come to think of it... I love entactogens but as of lately i'd rather feel rewarded, get satisfaction out of what I do instead of just... Hedonistic pleasure ?

I'm a dopamine junkie too, hence the drank and the speed. I think it's an ADD thing, ADD people can just never get enough dopamine.

Oxytocin's still my favorite, though. :cat:

I'm just a drug junkie. Straight up. I love drugs and the things they do to my body, from pot, to eating, to sex, to sleeping, to whatever. Anything you can do with your body is awesome to me.

Just try to not do stupid shit like get addicted to drugs that make you sick more than you feel good, and etc. C'mon, its not hard to live like a decent human. :mushroom2:

GABA doesn't cross the BBB, so it's inactive.  Unless you're shooting it into your spine.

Phenibut is awesome though.  Not too special on it's own, but adds real character to the other GABA drugs.

l-glutamine can be turned into GABA in the brain though, but your brain won't produce more than it needs, so it can't get you intoxicated.  It does, however, act on the glutamate receptors.  This should cause focus, and the opposite of disassociation.

Phenibut's the only one there really hanging onto your GABA receptors.  Might want to throw in a couple others. :aweoverdose:
