need solution for fanning
    #1500724 - 04/28/03 03:15 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

just out of curiousity if someone wanted to avoid fanning, what's their best option? The scenario is a rubbermaid tub, with a straw/dung casing at the bottom. Thanks

That is essentially all that dude uses, with the addition of a cool mist connected by a 3/8 or 1/2 i.d. tube. He never needs to fan, and gets optimal air exchange and humidity after some tweaking.

There are many posts about using a cool mists on the board. you could do a search to find more info.

Coolmist, hummer, fish tank bubbler in a jar.

As stated above , coolmist is the old soldier.

Any scaled down version of something like this.

Which creates fog like this.

It's not a cool mist but it does the job. At least my oysters think so.

tell me, 6T- dog-ulgualion, what kind of tweaking do you recommend, to use a vicks as a do-it-yourself-er?

to use it for all air exchange, you're gonna want to have it running a few hours a day - that would flood my terraria like a rainforest. but if i have to use condensers, it's a big old pain in the ass, and i don't want to go back there.

i have a super-accurate timer, but don't want to sacrifice good humidity for the sake of automatic air exchange. can i make the mist less wet somehow, without being an electrician?  (i didn't understand that tip in the mmgg about soldering the wires together at all)

Does your timer scale down to minutes of hours on/off?

If it does? Try 15 minutes on - every 2 hours. Monitor for a few hours & adjust more or less - as needed.

Something in that range will work, by both providing humidity & fresh air - if you tinker with it.
