Liz Phair opened the door for a lot of female artists like PJ Harvey and Beth Orton. Completely self-produced, very raw, you either love her or hate her. She fell off the map for awhile after having a kid.

I plan to get there Thursday. There were tentative plans for shroomerites to meet at a WalMart near the farm going on in the gathering forum. Seems the plan was to go in together so we could camp in the same area. Sounds like a good idea since I'd like to meet you guys and i'd feel my belongings were more secure. Anybody know if any progress has been made with these plans?

Sounds cool but I will be in line by the early AM of Thursday, I'm not risking traffic problems.

They have a very large message/poster board in Centeroo we could use to post a message or meeting plan of some sort. I would love to camp with you all but traffic is a nightmare with one way in, hopefully they have a different set up this year for the front gates. Maybe if we work something out I will change my mind I'll have to go and check out that thread.

that plan is still in exsistence. We are planning on meeting up at walmart sometime (need input from everyone going) and then possibly entering the gates together so we can camp in one big area together. kinda like "circling the wagons" for our own protection and for fun!

it is that "sometime" that needs to be ironed out.

edit: I'm leaving from east TN thursday morning so I should be able to make any reasonable time.

The one thing that sucks is Allman Bros vs. Keller vs. Fleck. I dont care much for ben harper, hes alright but when i saw him in concert with string cheese last year, honsetly he blew.

Neal Young and Crazy Horse will rock June 13.

Last year, the word Bonnaroo hit Manchester's sleepy consciousness right about the time the traffic did.
This year, event planners say they are ready for an expected 90,000 people, and hope the parking lot that was Manchester last year is avoided.
"We were a parking lot by the time the gates opened last year and we just played catch-up the whole weekend," said Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be setting out flashing signs through out the Interstate 24 route into Manchester warning travelers not ready to party to take alternative routes.
Motorists and truckers unconnected to the musical feast were stuck in their cars for as long as 12 hours. Highways 41 and 55 were a four-way soul train of concert-goers.
Spokemans Jeff Ceullar with Bonnaroo promoter A.C. Entertainment said planners have "taken everything into account" this year to try to prevent the amazing crawl that swallowed Manchester.
A temporary exit is being constructed on the 112 mile marker of westbound I-24 that will allow direct access to the Bonnaroo grounds just off of Bushy Branch Road.
That ramp should be in place by June 1, according to Cuellar. But Graves said most of the traffic last year flowed in from Nashville and believes six hours is the most time that can be shaved off of the traffic situation.
"We're still looking at an 18-24-hour traffic nightmare," the sheriff said.
He plans to meet with Bonnaroo officials Thursday to finalize traffic plans.
Cuellar said that instructions on the best way to get here have been mailed with each ticket sold.
"They know where they're coming from and they're getting directions with the tickets. A letter we sent suggests that you either follow directions unless you just want to wait 12 hours in a car," he said.
"Everyone is equipped with the information they'll need. We just want to cater to the crowd, and to make this year's event better. Last year was phenominal, but we got lucky with a lot things. We hope to be better prepared."
Good vibes keep the scene cool last year. Manchester residents and their 100,000 guests got along well. There were fewer than 40 incident reports filed with at the jail, and once the show started, flowed out smoothly until Monday morning.
Be reading the Times for you survivor's guide to Bonnaroo.
An eclectic line-up that Cuellar said caters somewhat to a Southern flavor, will play including the Allman Brothers, Emmylou Harris and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
James Brown Neal Young, moe and The Dead also top the event.

Hopefully right where Camp Daizy was last year, one of the very few areas with trees and it's right by some of the side stages, and I'd be more than happy to share with any Shroomerites

Same-I'm leaving EARLY Wed morning. Probably gonna camp at the state park-anyone have any info about that?

So the advice is to try to get a spot near the trees. I hear that!! I'll try to get in line at like 6 am Thursday morning.

I assume there will be shrooms and acid readily available. Anyone have any info about this? I (my dog) am gonna try to get ahold of 1/2 oz or 1 oz of shrooms to bring back-there's currently no supply that I can get ahold of!!!

Let's start a list of essential items for festivals, I'm a stoner and I don't want to leave anything out so alittle help would be wonderful.

*Shade: Screen Tent, Tarps, Tapestry, ect.
*Poncho: Looks like rain this year!
*Gold Bond: Trust me guys, Your balls will thank you
*Spray Bottle, water gun: Mist!
*Sunscreen
*Lysol Wipes: You're going to be using nasty festival porti-pottis, I would bring something to make them half assed sanitary.
*Sanitary hand cleanser
*Socks: Bring enough to share, if it rains all them people who brought one change of clothes are suffering.
*Cameras
*Extra Set of Keys: It's a long weekend folks, I met alot of people who lost their shit, be careful with your keys.
*Sleeping bag, tent, pillow, ect.
*Towels, rags
*Lots and lots of water
*Party favors
*Frisbee:camp ground, traffic jam
*hacky: camp ground, traffic jam
*instruments: camp ground, traffic jam
*Insect repellent
*flashlight
*smile: you are contagious
Feel free to add!

I recommend you pack enough food, beer and drink for yourself for the entire trip, Centeroo is a $cam.

Yes, but they don't let you bring into the main arena. The side stages were all wide open last year but they had gates and small time security checks heading into the big areana.

Magic Hats and Red Hooks were 5$ for 12 oz.

I was underage and wasn't IDed. Tell them it's your friends in another car who is 21. They were very reasonable last year.

Actually that is bad advise since I don't know what is going on this year, I would pack it in a cooler with ice. They don't search to hard. Just check for kegs, pets, people and no2 tanks.

I wouldn't be either, I'm bringing maybe a case of stouts for 3 of us and a couple spending dollars for a couple of them Magic Hat #9'$ cause they are to fucking tasty. Probably end up trading my local brews for some other beers and drinking them when I get home.

*headphones and player for late night trips when you can't sleep. wandering around late at night checking out all the campsites and the interesting people.
*your own drugs cause im sure you could buy but you make better friends by trading.
*canteen or water bottle. youll be hard pressed for time inbetween shows.
*the strongest bug spray possible.
*possibly a waist sathcel for carrying cameras, pipes, sacks, or whatever. you don't want your pockets to lagged down so that you have to worry about losing shit.
*foodsnacks that perishable
*a shovel isn't a bad idea
*neither is a tarp or something to make a lean-to to hide from the scorching sun under.
***all you festival virgins and newbies will want the strongest amount of sunscreen and sleep aids you can get. being fucked up real bad and scorching in the sun and tripping to hard to find time to sleep will not allow to tap into the full experience.

no, im no boyscout but i like to be prepared for anything, but not to the extent it bogs me down.

one of the best ideas i have heard is the spare key one. you carry a spare somewhere on you at all times and have your partner do the same. and vice versa. getting locked out your ride is a bitch at roo i bet.

i wish everyone the most positive experience.

found this at hiprforums.com:

From Mountain Groove:

Hey there, Just thought as festival season is "heating up" I
would pass
this along. It is from a Patty who lives in Atlanta and goes to
a bunch of the biggies in the South. Wonder how that boat cruise ( SCI, I believe- hc) will
settle out with this type of stuff?

DEFINITELY not trying to freak anyone out but, trying to educate and
inform so we are all smart hippies not smelly Ween ones.

Anyone been to any northern fests this year? Planningto go?

I just went to Smilefest in North Carolina, which has
always been a very chill festival, but this year the place was crawling with state pigs and undercovers and
all kinds of quasi-legal/constitutional-sounding
searches, set-ups, entrapments, etc. Many many busts,
and what sounds like some brutality, as well. Like, someone got punched and then arrested for alerting neighbors in the campsite about undercovers.

I know the festival organizers, and they sure were not smiling, all weekend. They had no control and were threatened repeatedly with charges of obstruction of justice. I dunno how many people in total were busted,
but it sounds like 25 or more. They had a paddy wagon
there, if that tells you anything. This wasn't "let's get the dealers", or "let's just look for people being too blatant/out of control", it was "let's go bust that father over there puffing at his campsite and rip him away from his crying wife and kid." They were also
harrassing people for having beer at their campsites and using open container as an "excuse" to search campsites.

Anyway. These days I am the queen of near-paranoic
discretion, although it seems like I was just lucky for not getting busted (i.e., I just heard of one kid who was inside his tent all zipped up -- as I had been several times throughout the weekend -- who got busted
when a cop smelled something and opened the tent). I actually did not witness first-hand any busts or any people who were "obviously" undercovers. But every
time I saw someone from the festival staff, the strain
and pain of the situation was written all over their
faces. They, of course, always have had county
sherriffs onsite "to serve and protect", but in this
case, without any warning, they were inundated by all
kinds of state law enforcement who were clearly out to
kick some dirty hippy ass.

My question: is this because of the RAVE Act? Patriot
Act? Both? Are Nothern festivals experiencing similar
police presence and overzealous activity? Is festival
culture as we know it about to disintegrate because
promoters and land owners can be held responsible for
drugs at their events?

It kills me that even with significant opposition, the
RAVE Act got tacked on to the Amebr Alert bill and
passed (THAT's playing dirty..). I'm not clear as to
whether or not the following language was actually in
the RAVE Act that passed, or if it's just in the new
CLEAN-UP bill that is trying to be passed (Sponsored
by Rep. Doug Ose (R-CA), the "Clean, Learn, Educate,
Abolish, and Undermine Production (CLEAN-UP) of
Methamphetamines Act):

Section 305 of the CLEAN-UP Act stipulates that:
"Whoever, for a commercial purpose, knowingly promotes
any rave, dance, music, or other entertainment event,
that takes place under circumstances where the
promoter knows or reasonably ought to know that a
controlled substance will be used or distributed in
violation of Federal law or the law of the place where
the event is held, shall be fined under title 18,
United States Code, or imprisoned for not more than 9
years, or both."

Is that some scary, potentially all-inclusive
language, or what? If this is the case, what happens
to, say, Phish tour?"

------------------------------

do you guys think that Bonnaroo will be all sketched out like that? hrm...

Looks more like Waterloo than Bonnaroo, better pack the rain gear folks!, Don't let the weather damper a good time.  I can only imagine how wonderful a nice mountain jam in a thunderstorm would be, with the clouds parting about 12 minutes into it and finally the sun coming out just after the drum jam    THIS is gonna be a blast!
