Could my gal pal put her Poo in a big all metal pot and simply bake it for 90 minutes at 170?

yes.
put the poo in a pillowcase, put the pillowcase in a pot nicely filled with water, and weigh it down with a brick or something.
alot of times ovens are not properly calibrated. you may not have to worry about this when baking something, but for work like this, a difference of 10 or 20 degrees can mean alot. get a candy thermometer and make sure that when the dial says (170), the oven's really at 170.

baking it because of the heat transfer factor you will probably have to go for at least 3 houurs....depends and the amount and how thick of a mass of poo....

Insert a meat thermometer into it, when using an oven. Get it to 175 / 180 F & maintain 2 or 3 hours. Then, you know the job got done.

Alright, see this is what confuses me......
first, 6T says to pasteurize for 2-3 hours, and I ain't gonna disagree with him, I mean have you seen his pics. Either he's one hell of a grower, or he has a f*ckep up sense of humor and he's just been cut and pasting.
But then in the link you provided, it says:
at 170?F for one hour.
Which is right?

6T likes to bake his inside the oven. I don't. I like to pasturize mine on the stove top. Understand?

Yo SK16.
It works WELL either way.
RoadKill prefers wet, on a stove top - in a pot of water.
I prefer moist, in an autoclave bag, in the oven.
Wet is quicker.
Oven means no draining. So, the time involved - equals out.
Everyone developes a method that works for them.
Try it both ways & make up your own mind (if ya want).
RoadKill can post the pic's of his foaf's grow & they turn out as well as my foaf's.
Just go with whatever is easy & works for you.
Simple as that.

Depends on which way ya do it.
A candy thermo works in a pot of water , a meat thermo works in the oven.
