Stacking Jars

I am about to make up some brf 1/2 pint jars to steam sterilize, I was wondering if I could stack the jars or not? I have been looking through the posts and faq's and found one reference in the faq's saying it was ok if they were staggered. But I was just wondering if this information is wrond or outdated, and if anyone else has done this while steaming?

Just make sure the holes you made for air exchange aren't blocked off.

If your talking about when steaming make sure you cover the inoculation holes with tape and the jars with tin foil.

What nick711 said is very redundant. Either do tape or do the foil, there's no need for both. Personally I'd say just do foil it's easy and cheap. If you do tape make sure it isn't porous otherwise there's no point.
You're fine to stack but don't put them in there too tightly as the glass will expand slightly while heating and possibly break them. That's the real issue when it comes to steaming...

Ok, I think they will have enough space side to side, I was worried they might not have enough space from the top of the pot? They have about 2 1/2 inch's from the top rim of the pot. I was just wondering if that is enough to have effective sterilization. I might be a little paranoid, but I want to be as successful as possible.I am only using tinfoil as I have been reading that tape greatly inhibits GE. Oh and Thankyou

It's steam, it will find it's way in and around all the jars.
You ARE just being paranoid. Gl and you're welcome.

Shiiiit my jars were touching the lid of the pot when I sterilized them, no problems here. Albeit they are still colonizing, but so far so good :P

Ya I for some reason thought that the closer the steam is from leaving the pot the cooler it gets so not effective. I didn't have any of these worries before I actually got all my supplies. Now that I am about to start I am questioning everything. Thanks for the input man

I feels you. It seems like more questions pop into your head once you get started that you would've never thought of before. Same shit happens with me.

I totally skimmed that and though it was for colonization.

Yes, you can stack the jars. Disregard what you read above about not using tape and foil. Micropore tape is wonderful, and you can inoculate right through it later. It sounds like you haven't watched the brf tek videos yet. Watch all four videos. They cover everything from filling the jars, to sterilization, to inoculation and fruiting. RR

Thankyou for the tips. I have watched all four of your videos, numerous times. Now that I got everything, Im starting to second guess myself. Actually watching them videos is how I found the shroomery . I have heard use the tape and then dont use the tape cause it inhibits Gas exchange (even though micro-pore). But I will follow your advice,Thanks again. Oh and I will be watching them videos over and over until the whole process is done.

Just about to inoculate. Steam sterilized them for 90 mins. yesterday afternoon, should defenitely be cool enough. Off to go srub down the room I will be using, and then hit the shower. After one more cigarette and cup of coffee that is (while reviewing the Lets grow mushroom video part 2) Oh and RR I did go with the tape and foil.
