Not knowing what to do in life.
    #1498517 - 04/27/03 05:56 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

I have a problem. I cannot seem to keep my interest in anything that i do. School, work, hobbies everything bores me after a while.

Two years seems to be the maximum i can stomach to do anything. I have had several jobs in my short life. Good jobs, jobs that some of my friend would kill to have. Some of these jobs was great at first. I really enjoyed doing what i did and i was good at doing it. But no matter what i do eventually i get so bored that i either quit or start doing a bad job.

I have been given possibilities beyond that of the average joe. I have a family that willingly has supported me in any and all business venues, financially and morally.
People that i know have been cutting me slack and letting me take jobs that i was no where near qualified to have.
Most of the work that i have done has been fairly easy by my standards and i never had any complaints.

Right now I'm at a crossroad in life. I'm really trying to figure out what it is i want to do. Should i study more? Take a different career? Do some volunteer work in africa? I have no idea.
I have been thinking about going to law school or starting a McDonald's franchise. Both options are acceptable to me but deep inside i know that i dont want to be a lawyer or a fucking corporate dick.

I know that if i do something that i really dont want to do I'm just going to get bored and quit or sell or whatever.
How do you know what you wanna do? What the hell am i gonna do?

I'm trying to figure that out myself... can I work at your McDonald's when it opens?

Yep, this is exactly how I am, too... I know, no matter how much I love something that after a certain amount of time it will lose its shine... this has made it very difficult to choose a career.. I never did decide.. maybe I never will, I now know what I'm going to do for the next few years... but after that, who knows.

The only way a job can really be fufilling is if its purpose is greater than to earn money to sustain your desired lifestyle.. teaching is one of those jobs.. one that you do because you want to do it, not because you're looking for your bread and butter... Maybe you need to find something you enjoy doing, that is more for someone else than yourself..?

Of these options.. which do you see yourself looking back ten years from now and regreting the most? Just ask yourself that for everything you can't decide.. its a good way to help figure out what you should do.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck.

Heh, my didn't want to be a lawyer, and that's why he made a damn good one. Don't let your preconcieved notions of what a certain person is "supposed to be like", because you don't have to be that way, if you don't want to.

I've had the same problem ever since school ended. I got a part time job at Mc Donalds to put some cash behind me, and quit in about a month because I got so sick of that place. Didn't work for a year or so and didn't know what the hell I was going to do. I ended up going to Uni for a year, everything was great the first semester, but the second semester I totally lost all interest and didn't care about it. So I left. After that I managed to get a car grooming job (I was desperate, and it seemed like a cruisy job). It was far from cruisy, wore me out so bad, fucked my fingers up (constant contact with chemicals wore the skin away on my fingers) and I ended up quitting after a month or so, mainly because I fucking hated doing that job so much.
This year, I'm doing a computer course, and at the moment, it seems like it could be OK. It's not what I've always wanted to do, but I need A job, especially one that doesn't require lots of labour, because I'm not physically strong. If the course was longer, I would probably have gave up (it's only a few days each part, and 4 hours a day). No idea how the job side of it will go. I may even end up going a different path in a year or so.
Despite all that, it's good to have all kinds of experience behind you. Getting the job you really want should be no problem at all, but it's just a matter of thinking of one. Give it a few months, and you may think of something that seems desirable.
Maybe try a bar course? Those kind of jobs are great for if you want to travel the world and basically have a job that you can do in any country.
Don't stress it, I say. You're in your 20s right? You're still young. Hell, I turn 21 next year, and I still haven't even managed to get a solid job down yet!

I had this problem since forever and it kinda turned into a bad thing pf doing the wrong drugs and bumming around and not caring about anything anymore. It's hard to find something you can stay interested in, that you want to put your heart into. One thing I've got on my side is music. I love it and always have. My sanity would probably be for the worse without it. heh fuck it. It sucks being confused.

I've struggled with this issue for years. I have been blessed with a constant influx of good paying jobs but nothing that ever lasts. in fact i am working on my 42nd job in my 9 years on the job market. I've made anywhere from $6.50 an hour to 65,000 a year. I will never be satisfied until I am working for myself. I think I have come to the conclusion that I want to be a farmer. not your avergae meat and potatoes farmer. A diverse farmer of shiitakes, ginseng, asparagus, and other specialty crops. The diversity keeps me interested and the specialty keeps it unpredictable. We should all know that growing mushroooms, for example, is an art that you can tailor to yourself. After coming to this conclusion and making efforts towards this goal I have had nothing but positive "energies"a nd "circumstances" come together to make this happen for me. To each his own. I'm sure the prospect of farming doesn't appeal to many people at all. I think Jared offered soem incredible advice. Don't commit to anything that you could foresee yourself regretting.

i think you should keep what your doing

jobs here and there, one after the other .... gigs

make sure you save cash ... throw half into some sort of mutual fund and you should be just fine.
