Lactarius volemus and Ganoderma lucidum

A couple of Lactarius volemus. Smells like dirty pussy or something, but taste like crab. Very yummy. Try it if it grows in your part of the world.

I also found a big Ganoderma lucidum today. The first time I find it. I have cut it in fine slices. Interesting to see if Swedish reishi works.
And of course the obligatory shroomery pore drawing

Nice finds! It's cool to see how wavy that reishi looks btw. I wonder if it's a trait of the strain you found, or if it's the result of local conditions.

It was mentioned in a swedish id guide, and I see it on several other mushrooms when I google it. I don't know if that is due to age or strain or something else... This one was growing from a very old pine stump, very decayed and covered with moss, cut down at least 20 years ago.
I wonder how old this mushroom is? Its about 8 inch across. edit: thought it was a slow grower, but i read it just takes a few weeks... doh! I was thinking more in terms of years

so nice!
i didn't dig the Lactarius volemus so much, my fingers turned brown and smelled like rotting fish, taste was, nutty? i had not thought about using them as a crab substitute though, there's something interesting there
from what i have seen reishi starts growing first crack of spring and wetness, and will grow until winter, albeit tough and big and gnarled

touched on this due to spending a summer in alabama, largely learning how to eat these milk caps. they are good if sauteed in white wine with garlic and onions. then again, so is snails. but this treatment will get it to be compatible with spaghetti.

Cool finds knarkkorven - I love hearing about new edibles. I will be keeping an eye out for Lactarius volemus, "The Dirty Pussy Shroom"..

Cook them in butter then add them to the sauce.
