How effective is cold shocking?

It seems to me that if cold shocking were this great method that more people would be doing it. I have two trays that have been birthed for 2 weeks with no pins. Would cold shocking do anything? What about just dropping the temp to 50f instead of putting in the fridge?

Its just another trigger to fruit, not a needed trigger but usfull if your impatient :-) I have used it succesfully and have fruited the same strains without. If you wont to give your casings/cakes a push start i recommend it, if you have time dont worrie about it. Good luck with them.

Sometimes it helps. Doesn't hurt.

Not effective at all. This coldshocking business is a myth. In fact, I'd even say it's amongst the TOP TEN list of mycology myths

I'd have to agree with you there. I'm not saying all mushrooms do not respond to cold shocking.. I'm just saying it doesn't really prove significant for cubensis.

cold shocking doesnt affect fruit or yeilds...it helps trigger pinning..thats its ONLY function...to drastically lower the temp so the mycelia will be taken out of colonizing stage and put into fruting stage
