Should Charelton Heston be allowed to have a gun still?
    #1499163 - 04/28/03 12:16 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

He was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease last year and is finishing his reign as NRA president. Should people with this kind of disease be allowed to posess guns? Not just trying to rag on Heston here but on people who suffer from these types of problems.

I remember my next door neighbor who had it chasing these poor Chinese kids down the street cause he thought they were stealing his hose, in reality they were using their own hose. It wasn't his fault cause he couldnt realy help it.

Actually I think it's a valid question...What is the current law concerning people with a metally debilitating disease and gun ownership? Is there one? or is the onus on the individual himself?

Well...Theres no law against being crazy, so I dont see how there can be a law against having a gun when your crazy. Theres a big difference between alzheimers and psychosis...I mean, just 'cause you have a bad memory doesnt mean your gonna start shooting anything that moves, eh?

You have obviously never met a person with Alzheimers...it's not pretty and there is far more involved than just being forgetful.

And I'm pretty sure there is a law banning "crazy" people from owning firearms...

Blind people should be allowed to drive.

It's their civil right.

People with infectous T.B. should be allowed to work in school caffeterias too.

oh, don't get me wrong he shouldn't have a gun if he's been dianosed with Alzheimers disease. I was just making a comment about kicking him when he's down.

He's Charlton Heston, he's one of the most respected actors of all time, and he's rich as fuck.

He may have Alzheimer's, but he's certainly not "down".

Showing up at Littleton a week after the shooting was kicking them when they were down and as well.

Best response yet.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

Exactly. What are a few grieving families whose children were killed by gun violence compared to an aging celebrity who's losing his memory?
