Dog crap pile
    #1496784 - 04/26/03 08:42 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Ok I recently tried some shrooms with some firends, and I wanna try em again.  Now I know that the mushrooms that grow around here grow on shit so 3 weeks ago I started saving all my dogs shit in the corner of my yard.  Well the massive amounts of rain over the past days has washed my pile away along with any hope of mushroom growing out of them.  So would mushrooms grow out of my dogs shit, or does it only grow out of cow and horse shit?  Also what else could I use to grow some magic mushrooms in my backyard naturally?  And finally is there some kind of mushroom forcast anywhere because last night after my shit pile was washed away I went out to a field at about 12:45am but I couldnt find any and I thought the conditions were right.  I dont like wading in cow shit swamp water for 2 hours and finding nothing .

I read about the 3 types of magic mushrooms that grow in my area and when they grow, but I just dont know the right conditions or times they appear.  I live in central florida about 1 hour away from tampa if that could help you answer some of my questions.

Thanks in advance

Mushrooms only grow in dung of grain fed animals...so, not dogs.

Welcome to the shroomery!
There is a general rule that the shit of carnivores is not good for mushrooms, but I have already found mushrooms growing directly from dog shit in a city park. I didn't pick them and make the ID, but they looked like Panaeolus!!!

Read the FAQ section on cultivatiun mushrooms outdoors.

My dog eats formula one which is a combination of chicken and rice. Rice is a grain so it is possible her shit could be used for growing mushies. I havn't tried it so who knows?

Psilocybe Cubensis will not fruit on dog shit. Period. The reason you use cow/horse poo is because they eat a lot of plant fiber. This in turn leaves us with nitrogen rich poo. Carnivores are secondary consumers, so you won't get as much energy from their poo either.

However, being in Florida you can make an outdoor patch. Look in the faq.

LOL thats the funniest thing I've heard in a while. I can just see him going out to his pile of dog shit everyday, hopes all high that mushrooms would just magically appear because he collected some dog shit together. LOL.

Thanks for the laugh.

And you guys who are saying its possible should just let it go, you're only encouraging this misinformed fellow.
