cakes WONT blue?!?
    #1498457 - 04/27/03 05:32 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

A friend cased 2 cakes , and noticed they didnt turn any blue when crumbled...well...the case is contaminated now, and he checked the mycelium and it wasnt blue at all, so he tried squeezing a large piece with a knife (before throwing it out) and it didnt blue...does it mean his cakes suck?

I think that means that there is no psilocybe or the other chemical that makes you psilly

not enough incubation time....it wasnt 'ripe' yet.... When you diced the cake how did the inside look, was it moist....They tend to bruise less when the are well hydrated....I couldnt give you a positive answer but it may also be the strain.

how long did it take to colonize? are you sure it wasnt a contamed cake that you thought was colonized?

generaly when the start to get a little dry, same as with fruiting...pushing fruit dries them out and they tend to be bire apt to bruise...this isnt always the case, I have seen cakes that the little monkeydog grew that didnt bruise at all...they still had that vitamin P goodness.....I'd tell you the strain bui I cant read the little critters writing......

It takes a little time... usually around twenty minutes to really show... for fruit to blue at least. I wouldn't worry about the cakes not turning blue... I have never noticed it when preparing casings.
