i'm good i produce enough to keep me satisfied with cakes... i've experimented with monotubs and had some giant shrooms, but its just more work and i get more contamination issues (and when monotubs get contaminated it can fuck up all of them since they aren't contained like inoculation containers) than with plain old cakes. i have other shit to do than just grow shit tons of shrooms:shrug:

perhaps one day when i buy my own house and get tools for other home improvement i will update my grow equipment, but i just don't need a drill for anything other than making a shotgun FC and i don't like having junk around my place that i don't have use for...

Umm... Besides a drill, which obviously can be substituted, all you need is a pair of scissors to cut the felt...

By the way, when I posted this, my intentions for a filter where for grain spawn jars. But with some help I found a polyfill substitute and a typek substitute.

How the hell did you do a monotub without drilling any holes? Did you cut squares in the bin and tape typek envelopes?

Im going to stick to it...
It works great...

@Barak
You comparing tyvek to coffee filters/sponges makes me mad! :banghead:
You comparing your Easy Felt, that you have been rocking for a SHORT TIME, to tyvek, that i have been rocking for 9 years now, and putting it "above" tyvek, is quite funny!
But im still gonna love you...

@Others
You guys need to get off your high horses and quit spreading bad info...
There is absolutely nothing wrong with tyvek, specially when someone is trying to move on to something more advanced, like grains...
Just realize, that when 1 jar out of 100 contam, it prob wasnt the filter to blame...

Tyvek is all the same thickness and quality, it is set to certain standards by dupont.  I have used post office tyvek many many times without fail.  However, if you want tyvek for bag sleeve filters then buy the tyvek suit because the tyvek is already fluffed up and flexible.

Thank you for being the voice of reason. I wasn't going to say anything. There are different kinds of tyvek, but the kind used in postal envelopes is in no way "inferior". My knowledge of tyvek comes out of ultralight backpacking where I have been using the material for years to make my own gear.

I never said anything about it's ability to filter, however. I personally don't think it would be that good as a filter. I think tyvek (any type of it) would be an all around inferior filter, but that's just a hunch. I don't have the experience that some of you have with it. My experience with it is from a different hobby.

The difference between painter and po tyvek, is that po tyvek has been heat pressed, into a more thin material...
Its all the same shit...
Dupont does make some medical tyvek suits that have better water resistance than regular tyvek...
With it being a heat pressed synthetic material, i bet tyveks pore size is smaller than EZ Felt..

Postal Tyvek

  • 35x the material per jar when compared to a Quarter sized Easy Disk or SFD
waste of material, By my moderate count I get 35 quarters placed into the space
of one of piece of Postal Tyvek

  • Doesn't last as long as Easy Felt or SFD or hold up to as many PC cycles.

  • Time spent obtaining material and re-cutting over
and over again, a complete waste of time

  • Very unattractive, unless you prefer your jars to look like
osama bin laden, Kip or that D-bag selling crack on the corner.

Easy Felt

  • 1 Sheet of Easy Felt is 18"L X 12"W which is larger than Postal tyvek which is 14"L X 11"

  • Easy Felt is Polyfil Ironed out, Polyfil is a Proven Material

  • Easy Felt lasts longer than Postal tyvek

  • Easy Felt is very attractive

I have a feeling that no amount of proven data would sway you from using postal tyvek.

Easy Felt is Polyfil Ironed out, Polyfil is a Proven Material
The fact that its ironed out makes it easier to manage and gives it a smaller pore size than if one were use loose Poly in its native form.

Easy felt when Ironed out becomes a SFD Synthetic Filter Disk
Synthetic Filter Disk's are PROVEN to be superior to Postal Tyvek.

For the price of a cheesburger or cup of coffee you could have this superior material in your inventory.

Actyualy Totes, since your My AMU brother and Since it being free is the only leg Tyvek can stand on,
I would be willing to send you a few free sheets of Easy Felt just so you could see if you like it.
...Unless your just afraid of change, 9 years is a long time to be using Postal Tyvek:wink::heart::hug:

We'll just call it totes little Easy Felt experiment.  :derfase:

what is with all the childish shit talk, oh my god those jars look funny? wow that is a great argument:thumbup:

seriously can't you just stop arguing? they both work perfectly fine what is the problem, where is your proof that one filter which works fine is better than another filter that works just a good but doesn't look "funny"

choosing to distort what my post up-thread contained as my side
of what I feel are factors that show tyvek as a poor choice for

you still failed to inform how exactly your filters are any more superior to plane old tyvek other than the fact that you pay for them. people never had problems due to using tyvek and that is actually proven by the majority of the people posting in this thread alone.

i don't see how you feel i'm arguing against your filters, i'm sure they work fine just as tyvek works fine. :wow:

You asked the question where is my proof,

I would ask the same and say where is proof that Tyvek is superior to easy felt?

I seem to have very compelling arguments to why
Easy felt is superior but nothing is offered to suggest otherwise. :strokebeard:
