Just got my new HTC Thunderbolt up and running.

Holy Jesus Fucking Christ.  This this is ridiculous.  I'm not worthy of its power but I'll wield it with pride.  The response time on this thing is insanely fast, the video is total HD, plenty of RAM, shit even the My Threads page on the Shroomery just blinks up without a load time.  I finally have a phone that's still in the top 5 and it feels fucking amazing.  I had the HTC Eris before which was still a great phone but this just blows it straight out of the water.  If any verizon subscribers are hesitating on a new phone I promise you if you upgrade to the Thunderbolt you won't be disappointed.

I'm considering an HTC, but I'm on AT&T.  Currently using the iPhone 4, which is awesome, but has some serious design flaws and well... the iPhone 5 was what I was waiting for but I'm sick of Apple.

That phone is badass Newbie!  Glad you're liking it!  What do you think of Android overall?  Does that function that puts your phone display on a flatscreen stream media?  Like watching a movie you recorded with the 720p camcorder(which fucking rules btw :crankey: ) is possible on your TV?  Do you need a special device for the TV?  Is it dual-band through the router?

I'm stoned as fuck right now so I'll quit asking questions and UTFSE.  Those features wow'ed me for sure... mainly that DLNA!

EDIT: How is the Verizon 4G?  3G sucks balls with AT&T.

Sorry for the delay, been busy.

Overall I really like Android.  It's extremely easy to learn, it's comfortable, and the layout makes sense.  I haven't tried any of the streaming apps yet and I don't think it's dual band with the router.  It connects just like an iPod would but it doesn't give the option to change the band.

The 720p camera is amazing.  Very clear, good sound.

And last night I rooted it!  It was a simple 3 step process that didn't take too long at all, and now I have complete control over the phone.  I got an app that let me remove all the stock apps so I only have on there what I use.  My apps are only 2 pages long.  It takes one flick for me to navigate between all of my apps.

The coolest part is that you can back up the ROM like that so if I ever need to restore it'll restore back to this new barebones, custom, rooted ROM.  :awesome:

A bit anal, but if it is a ROM (in the technical sense of the word), then you cannot 'restore' back to it, as it is a read only device.  I'm not sure what is in there, but EEPROM or more likely flash memory, are the more appropriate terminology.  /pedantic

I knew someone would call me out.  :shakefist:  I do use the term loosely...

I guess the best way to describe it to the technologically inept would be that I am able to revert my phone back to this previous desired state at will.

Anywhere else, I would have let it slide, but this is the science and tech forum.  Plus, I love to use my /pedantic stick.  I think it comes with age...

I have the 4g Nexus S. Have you downloaded the Speedtest app to see your speeds?  I'd be curious as to what you get.  When connected to wi-fi I can only get 10mbs.  Over 3g I only get 1.5 mbps or so.

The form factor is the best part of the Nexus S.  It's actually a bit concave, which is incredible to hold and use.  I too, noticed a big improvement over my HTC hero.  The 4g is pretty worthless IMO.  I like the "pure google" experience, but it does have some limitations, most notably no visual voicemail.

It'll be nice once ice cream gets pushed out.  Other than than, I have some reservations about signal strength, but no real way to confirm.

i'm a big HTC fan, and am looking to upgrade soon from my eris as well (so tired of it's shit.) i really like the thunderbolt, but i feel like if i wait a little longer i can get a dual core with more ram. plus theres no 4G/lte anywhere in my state yet.

it looks pretty badass, but they pump out new phones so damn quick now i feel like if i got one there would be something better soon.

I use the Motorola Atrix and this phone is AMAZING. Especially since the 2.3 update for it. I'm on AT&T, the 4g speed isn't bad, but it's not full 4g yet. They are running on an HSPA+ network which is technically 3.5g. The LTE network has been launched in major cities if i'm not mistaken and it's suppose to run around 7.2mbps.

I get speeds on my phone that average about 18 Mbps, sometimes as high as 23 Mbps.  Way, way faster than my home connection.

I stand corrected. I just refreshed a little on the speeds and you're right. LTE (true 4g) can withstand up to 300mbps! I don't think it's quite capable of that with our mobile phones yet, but still pretty impressive.

That's pretty damn cool though. I use AT&T and in my area we only get HSPA+ atm. It's still fairly quick though. I can't wait for LTE to launch in my area so I can use it on my Atrix.

LTE is awesome right now, but what I really want is a netbook with an LTE radio or a USB LTE modem.  There is only so much you can do with that much speed on a phone.
