Who believes in the big bang theory? What do you think it was like? Or if not what was in the "begining" ?

If there was a big bang, what was there before the big bang?

I don't know if I believe in the Big Bang Theory, but I too am more interested
in What was there BEFORE the big bang. What I want to know is how did
matter come into existance. How can there be something from nothing,
what are we missing? I feel there is something we can't quite grasp
but if we do realize it, it'll seem so obvious.

The only problem is that the universe is expanding with acceleration, which means there will never be a big crunch.

Another good question... if the universe has a definite size, and the universe is expanding, what thing is it expanding into...

Eh, I think its impossible to understand sober  or really hard. It comes down to time, thats what its all about. In theory I believe there was suppost to be no time before the big bang so there was nothing before since before couldn't exist.

I think we are products of creation, the big bang created creation, it was the 1st creation setting off a chain reaction of them. There probably is something else that was before that but do to being a creation we cannot grasp it since it is beond everything we are, as in matter, time, etc...note I'm using is and was not to describe a moment in time but rather to communicate a thought that cannot be described due to language limitation.

The universe is expanding but can always pull back together (gravity) and recreate the big bang. Like a rubberband effect, the explosion pushes everything out and gravity pulls it back in.

The "thing" it is expanding into isn't a thing, its part of the beond matter/time creation, thats why its eternal and impossible for us to grasp. Thats what I think since this question has been asked for thousands and thousands of years trillions of times but recieved zero answers.

with acceleration... there isn't enough mass for gravity to overcome the current rate of acceleration... recent observations indicate that there will be no crunch... instead, everything will get further and futher apart until there are no more stars in the sky at night. Of course our own sun will have burned out, taking the Earth with it, well before that happens.

Scientists say they dunno which will happen...I saw a discover channel special on it and they dunno if it will expand forever or come back together...

It has only been in the last year or two that multiple methods of measuring the rate of expansion have shown that there will be no crunch. Of course things can change, but right now the concensus amoung astronmers is that the universe will expand forever. What Einstein concidered his biggest folly looks as if he was indeed correct.

Quote:

Cosmologists originally believed that the universe was slowing down due to gravity, but new discoveries show that for about the past five billion years the expansion of the universe has been accelerating due to the presence of a pervasive, mysterious "dark energy." One of the most striking discoveries of recent cosmology, this acceleration of the universe not only has radically altered the picture of the universe, but also has helped to confirm the basic predictions of the inflationary theory.

For those interested here is a good link to various ideas concerning Big Bang Theory.

The Balloon(inflation) model is discussed as well.

Since time is a man-made invention to calculate the passage of events, asking what was there before the big bang is pointless, because reality is just a long constant ...

like fractals, it never truly does end, nor did it ever start ...

Yes, time itself is an illusion, im glad someone else realizes this.

There is no point in pondering this stuff - because we werent designed to interpret it. The only reason we try to is because of an unsatisfactory...think about it, I kid you not.

Dont worry about what happened before the big bang....because Past and future do not exist....They are complete illusions.

The only thing that exists is the present moment...

If there was a big bang, what was there before the big bang?

the big bang created time as well as space.

If there was a big bang, what was there before the big bang?

A giant black hole that contained all matter. This was in some views, the whole God in every sense. Everything was one.

What created that hole with all matter. Rationalize all you want, God is the source of everything.
