Lighter Thieves
    #14977033 - 08/25/11 02:44 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

stop stealing fucking lighters, please, I wind up buying a new lighter daily cause I frequent parties and no one ever has a lighter and then they steal mine.  I know these things don't evaporate.

It's rude, you can borrow my lighter anytime, just give it back.

Stop buying lighters daily. I used to be one of those people, but it trains you to not look for your lighter when it has been stolen. People pocket lighters without realizing it all the time. You gotta remember to remind them that they have your lighter just as much as they gotta remember to give it back.

Lighter are like pens and disposable razors, they are meant to be lost. That's why they are made by bic.

I hate having lighters taken from me :crankey:
That said, if I find a lighter lying on the ground or somewhere that it has obviously been misplaced, you can bet I'll be taking it.

None of the lighters I own were  bought by me, and none of the lighters I bought are still in my possession.  Just works out that way.  It happens by accident, and it happens all the time.  When you're baked as fuck, you don't think about it.  It's a reaction to put it in your pocket.

Buddy of mine has this retractable lighter holder that attaches to his belt, no lighter of his has been stolen since he got it.

Yea man I steal lighters like it's my job but it is never on purpose.  I just usually get super baked and the weed and bowl are mine so I pocket the lighter with the rest of the stuff not even realizing it.  My bad

yeah but you're gonna realize that you've come into posession of a lighter that isn't yours.  Once you realize this, don't you go out of your way to give the lighter back?

I am guilty of this, but by accident only...I'm so used to being the only one with a lighter that when I use someone else's i sometimes just pocket it out of habit.

:sorry:

I do, just because I hate losing my lighter so much. Granted when I am at a party it is usually all close or good friends. Some random party  you might ask who's is this and 3 people say mine.

If I can't find  my lighter I announce it, and then jokingly say everyone empty your pockets, people usually do anyways and I find it without being a dick or losing it

That's why I go out of my way to buy ugly and distinctive lighters. Bic made it a lot easier since they introduced all those designs with animals and nature scenes and zodiac signs and shit. Nobody wants to steal that, plus it makes it easier to identify the perpetrator.

I smoke everyday and haven't bought a lighter EVER.  Maybe once or twice in my entire life.

It happens subconsciously.  I tried to remind myself I was using a friends lighter to smoke a bowl last night, and woke up with it in my pocket.  It's totally unintentional, for me at least.

I never have lighters. But when I need one I'll do this -> smoke people out, so after I get them really high I tell them I have to leave and covertly take their lighter with me. That's after they say I can't have it. Then the next day I'll return it. Say I took it by accident after I smoked the rest of my bud.

One could invest in a quality lighter like a zippo or something unique looking that doesn't look like every other Bic. With a higher value chances are better that you wouldn't forget about it once you let somebody use it.

I dont consciously steal them...they just end up on my person at the end of the night if Ive been drinking.

If I havent been drinking I dont lose them nor do I obtain them, but if I have I both lose and obtain.

Therefor I am good when it comes to lighters.

I do this too, but not to identify them. It's something I do without thinking about it.
I also peel the label off every bottle of beer I drink.
even though its not intentional it does help differentiate beers on a table or lighters going around a circle.
I never buy lighters they just appear in my pockets. All my friends say the same thing. who the fuck is buying all these lighters?

Zippo lighter fuel tastes nasty though...

I'd take a Clipper over a Zippo for bongs/bowls any day.

Zippos are nice though. I have an engraved one, but I wouldn't take it to a smoking session. The Devil makes work for stoned hands, amirite?

You guys are HIGHLY misinformed and have no empathy. NOBODY "steals" lighters. This is why I always use a PINK or ORANGE lighter, because then everyone knows it's mine. Or get a sharpie and write your name on it.

What happens is people get high, they take the lighter from you or someone you handed it to, they're high, they're not thinking about it, and they keep it without thinking of it. I've done it millions of times.

What you need to do is quit being a dumbass and just keep constant watch of your lighter. Either that or buy one of those things that holds the lighters that you clip onto your belt buckle.

Shit people get a fucking clue here! EVERYONE has accidentally taken someone's lighter and EVERYONE has lost a lighter in this same manner.

I steal lighters accidentally all the time. Never once on purpose. I assume it's the same way when I lose one of mine. It only bugs me when I'm at home, pack a big bowl, then realize I have nothing to light it with. Also, often when I accidentally steal one, I know it's not mine, and if I remember who it belonged to, and the opportunity arises to give it back, I will.

Lighters are sluts man they get passed around and come and go.  For the record, if I do realize that I stole one and the owner is around I give it back but if not I don't feel bad about it at all lol I have stolen a bunch and had a bunch stolen its a cycle.

I usually rip the sticker in half on my bics, because seriously who the fuck else does that?  Makes it easy to spot my lighter in a crowd. :awesomenod:

I do..plus I take the childproof off right away and fold the 2 prong things back down afterwards

Keep your friends close, but your lighters closer.

When Bic introduced the pink lighter I bought one, thinking it to be distinctive. If I ever had 2 lighters in my pocket (usually was my g/fs) Id throw one in the center console of my Jeep. In one week I ended up with 4 pink Bics...I figured I was the only one who had one, so every one I encountered I thought was mine ...

I try to buy red lighters as there is a myth here that they will get you arrested. No one fucks with the red lighter.

Haha I buy pink lighters a lot too. And also do weird things to the label to make them distinguishable.

There's a myth around here that white lighters are bad luck. So I make sure to get one of them whenever possible as well. They seem to be rare though. (bic)

In response to below...I'm on the west coast

Yeah, you're not to far from me. I heard the eastcoast bad luck lighter is the white lighter. I am surprised at the amount of people who believe that bullshit.

Yeah, my mom's always borrowing my lighters to light candles or some shit, and then she leaves them outside in the rain to get all rusty. :gc:

I've done the same thing with pink lighters.  I now keep a brown one, because I don't see many people having them.  Also, around here, the red lighter is bad luck, so a lot of my friends will not use one, so I have a red one a good bit of the time, too.

Just saw where someone else mentioned this.

I always heard orange was the bad luck color

I used to get the poop brown or pink ones myself.
Now I don't care, it just has to be different than my wife's.

I still don't know where my pink one is...
Dammit, checked wife's dirty pants, found a mini orange one  where is the pink one.
Probably in the dryer.

Oh mini orange, it has been a long time since I have used you....

Time for  :pipesmoke:

Bic's are not that cheap. But you can usually get a 5 pack for 5 bucks.

Bic's or nothing.

Weirdly enough, according to the 27 club, white lighters are bad luck, so I don't know.  A lot of people say red and a lot of people say white.

I called out a sketchy acquaintance for not returning a lighter.
He was sitting down, and insisted he didn't have it.
I told him to check his pockets, because he was mistaken, and I had just given it to him.
He stood up and said "I'm not in the 'lighter game' anymore":ilold:
He pulled out his pockets and it was not in there.
I picked up the cushion of the chair he was sitting on and found it dead center.
There was no way it had worked itself there. He knew it, and tried to make light of it, laughing, saying, "man, I'm just playin'".
This is why he's an acquaintance.
That guy has come a whole lot closer to catching a beating from me, for other various reasons.
A real life Scumbag Steve.
