Making Vegetarian Chili ...
    #14938916 - 08/17/11 07:01 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

This time I added some cocoa powder for colour, and already I can tell it's the best batch yet!

We'll have it tomorrow night with homemade cornbread.

Yummy!

I'm sorry but I can't even wrap my head around the concept of vegetarian chili. I have nothing against vegetarian food...but vegetarian chili does not compute.

I don't know about veggie chili but I've made veggie spaghetti with tempeh. I sliced then chopped it into tiny of pieces, sauteed it in olive oil with seasoning briefly, then added the s'ghetti sauce and other sauteed veggies, simmer.  After noodles done, drain, back in pot, in goes sauce, simmer serve. GARRRRLICCCC TOOOOAAAAAASSSSTT.

If you have your tempeh in tiny little crumbs in a thickish tomato sauce it's no different than fine crumbled beef, except you can chew it without problems.

I bet if you have a thicker type chili with a lot of beans, finely chopped tempeh would do too.  Don't forget the molasses and paprika.

My friend makes a mean vegetarian chili.  Honestly, you wouldn't know it didn't have meat in it.  Everything from the color, to the texture, and the flavor is spot on.
