text SMS- importing phone #'s to gmail

My friend runs a business and uses a text messaging service (SMS)to send out texts every week to his customers. All the phone numbers (over 4,000) are saved on his website database and wants to transfer those to his gmail account. How would I go about doing this?

have you tried googling it?
I kind of don't know the answer. with exporting all your outlook contacts to gmail you enable pop3 in gmail then find smtp and pop3 settings and forward forward forward once you adjust your outlook settings. don't know what type of server your friend has, what type of database, how many numbers, what file extension those numbers are saved under. all those files have to go to gmail? how much space do they take up?
anyway it shouldn't be impossible, it should be simple. sounds like fun, try this:

that what you were looking for? otherwise I don't know

ok then some information please. what type of server, what type of database. where are those phone numbers saved. what type of file transfer system does he use to send out those texts? what ports are open? ftp? I know NOTHING about server stuff, but I'll help you google it, because computers are a pain in the ass, and half the time the solution is simple.
you'll need to enable a file protocol in gmail, but I don't know which one it will be, doubt it will be pop3, but then does your friend use an email data base? maybe it is pop3, doubt it. who knows, just give me some solid specs and I'll start googling.
THIS has GOT to work:
http://www.googletutor.com/how-to-import-contacts-into-your-gmail-address-book/
I don't know I haven't done it, but if it works, please let us know so we know that the links are not for naught, if I trade contacts and accounts between email addresses one day, I'D like to know how to make contact folders into csv files, then to export them. it really has to be simple. it really has to be. Have you tried this??

ok this image shows me exporting contacts from gmail in the form of csv file. importing should just be the opposite, it should be simple enough. on your friends server, with his outlook or whatever he uses, there should be an export button, look around for it, look deep in that mug, it should be very similar. then change the contacts folder type to csv, that you'll have to google. once it's in this form in a file, just go back to gmail, and import it in there. it CAN'T be too difficult

google has a phone service "google voice" that also allows sms from a pc (no picture mail though). i'm sure he could set up an account and find an easy way to import his contacts to his google voice account.

He should be able to generate a CSV file somehow, but it depends on how the contacts are stored for him now. Google returns a lot of results but you'll get more help if we know what type of file the contacts are in now.
