Definitely shouldn't be smelling like apples, should be bitter-sweet danky smell that most mush mush gives off. If the casing doesn't show any signs of growth after a week or so, I'd chuck it and concentrate on the other. If that one is contamed you need to get it out ASAP. In fact if you can isolate the two right now that would be great..
I'm somewhat vague on smells to contams though...
