I don't take chances. One outbreak of green & you're done for 6 months...not worth it. I do G2G quicker than I hit 10 jars w/ a syringe, so I feel ya on the speed.
I haven't taken short cuts & am not starting now.

shit, id do it in open air after a days work without a shower and still go successful. Contams really dont seem to be my problem much. although here and there i do get a green one or two :[. I'm trying to improve on my sterility, and have been getting much better at it.
So can't I just mix lme and agar into a bowl and then place in a sleeve of plates and then pc? I thought there was a way without having to hot-pour..

if you mix it then put it in the dishes and PC they will boil in the dishes and splash your agar mix all around the lids. With agar in all those places that you dont want it your contam rate will go up with all this agar being exposed around the lid. They make certain mini canning jars that are shaped a little different then your normal jars that would be useable but also get the rack with it so you can keep them up out of the water some.

Absolutely - The jars etc must be out of contact w/the water. Far away as you can get. Try putting your stuff in a disposable round aluminum baking tin that fits the PC more or less tightly on top of your trivit, jar lids, whatever. A PC within a PC. Put a couple holes in the bottom to let the condensate flow back into the water otherwise you get water in the bottom of the tin. Thats bad, defeats the purpose otherwise. Aluminum is a great heat exchanger, one of the best materials for heat exchange there is. That way the high temp steam sterilizes the contents, and the aluminum spreads the heat out evenly, so no hot spots within the jar area. Yes, there are hot(ter) spots within a PC. I find it keeps the splashing in the jars down a little, but not entirely. I found all this out screwing around with the poor mans agar sub tek with BRF. ( which works pretty good IMO, just not good for sectoring I have read. ) I got a smoother surface on the BRF with the aluminum tin. Just an observation.
I just got into exp w/agar and have the feeling I'll be pouring in a glovebox. Too many people cant be wrong.

yea thats not pretty..
So what i did was i got out 20 petris and i hot pour them in a ghetto rigged glove box i made out of a card board box and garbage bag and a little bit of saran wrap.
I was kinda messy the first 3 plates, and i think i may have over filled some. idk i was left with 5 empty petri dishes.
anyways I did the
9g agar 10g LME 500ml H2O
how ever, I also had 5 extra half pints laying around so I divided all the ingredients by 4, and mixed it and poured them into the jars pre-PC and then foiled them up and PC'd for 30 mins at 15psi. The agar used in the petri was boiled together in a pot until dissolved and poured into a quart jar to also be PC'd. I PC'd the 20 petri agar mix and the 5 pints together.
I have the petris wrapped in saran so i hope everything worked well and sterile.
In result I tried both the straight into the glass jars and pc; and the hot pouring into plastic petris.
