Brain Surgery w/Patient Awake!

This very cool video shows a patient having a large tumor removed from his brain while he's awake, which is necessary in order to physically map the areas responsible for speech before any tissue is removed.
With the patient awake and lucid, he can speak as the doctor probes the brain with an electric current. When he touches a part of the brain involved in speech while the patient counts to 10, the patient becomes unable to speak. The doctor subsequently avoids removing any of that part of the brain.
Part 1 of 3:
-------------------- Republican Values: 1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you. 2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child. 3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer. 4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

while not nearly as cool, c-sections are done the same way.

graphic! and c sections must suck! the mother has to go through that while awake, maybe with no pain, but definitely probably not too happy

Saw something similar many years ago. They were doing brain surgery on a patient with parkinson's disease and the patient needed to be awake to perform certain tasks during the operation. It was trippy then, and its still trippy now!
