the fluffy cake coating
    #1493088 - 04/25/03 12:20 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

there's that white fuzzy mycelium growing on his newly birthed cakes. The pftek says that this will result in a late and dissappointing pin set. It also says that it is a result of a too high temperature in his terrarium. His temperature is in low 70's with Rh at steady 99%, there's an air pump running almost continuously for gas exchange, are there any other considerations?

The mycelium may still be consuming unused starches inside the cake. It may have been fully colonized but not yet finished growing. This is not uncommon and should not be a problem- just give it time.

Your humidity is too high, try to lower it.

in my expirience right before u see pins you will see this fluffy puffy mycelium growth which in case has always turned into pins.

@ zeronio
I thought with cakes we could even go upto 100% rh.
