conscious or not. * 1
    #14946716 - 08/19/11 12:25 PM (9 years, 8 months ago)

IMO it's really not important today.  I say that because imo it cannot be known how far consciousness extends beyond our brain. Everything we experience and perceive now happens through a biological unit with a brain so one cannot say with surety  what there is left when the body/ brain is gone.

What is important then, subjectively at least, is the experience one is having now.  How far can we delve into the experience called life?  How much can we become aware of in this experience of now?

I agree. It may be impossible to ever understand consciousness, given that the only objective reality is the physical one that we share.

But we dont need to understand consciousness in order to BE conscious. Weve been doing it for ages. We know how to make art and be creative and explore our world, without having any concept of consciousness at all.

There's nothing needed to be known, just know yourself and you will see how things are. I'm working on this.

i'd say everything we know and experience (including the body and brain) happen through awareness, and not the other way around. i've always been an advocate for the 'brain in a vat' scenarios, so i think it's important to remember all we have is our experience, everything else (including the basis of what generates that experience i.e. body/brain) is a projection occurring within experience. so this could be a dream who knows? i think this view allows for the most non-attachment and carefreeness

I think it's really unknown whether "you" experience your brain or your brain experiences you.  This was stated pretty plainly in my OP.

So once again I'm going with what is experienced now and not seeking further explanation, which it seems can only be subjective due to our circumstances.

Taking a moment to just pay attention to the breathe and everything that comes with it is what I consider diving into the hear and now, and living life for how life should be lived. Living each moment for the moment and not letting mind take over; observing and living in each action as it happens and once happened, moving on to the next... constant flow.

I don't think it matters really. Conciousness is a useful evolutionary tool, like the ability to move your arm. I'm not even sure if there's any agency or free will involved in thinking, and therefore any attempt to exert control over the process is just messing with the process itself. Like trying to move your arm by picking it up with your other arm, instead of just moving it.

I've had some strange experiences of diving in lately. A lot of the fear, or perhaps more surface the reluctance to engage, is not there. The experience of life has become vastly richer, even the every day stuff like work. I've become more innovative and broader in scope, the interactions have become more substantial, and the life of the job seems renewed. At the same time when I get done from the day, having worked harder and socializing more, I am not drained. This is a pretty new and somewhat counter-intuitive experience for me. Reminds me of a video I saw once about a guy telling people he can guarantee they will quit smoking if they can only realize that the reason they smoke (to relieve stress) is what keeps them stressed. I feel like living life in order to try and find a way out of life is the very thing that kept me feeling trapped.

Just this morning I was wondering why I was down when for weeks I've been flying high, and what I did was play with the notion that I was about to die, or could die at any moment. There was no fear, instead, a kind of, 'fuck yeah' liberation. Truly death is something substantial in the psyche and we can become unconscious of it, yet it still does deeds.

I believe I've been very attached to the PHYSICAL FORM and it has been causing me some stress. I know though find it hard to articulate that the physical form is not my ultimate form.

Seems though, that part of life's beauty is its death or disappearance, or should I say, transformation.

Without death we would be like the gods of old. Completely bored and willing to fuck with anyone for a moments diversion.  I do not envy them their immortality.

Life has whatever meaning it has for me due to death. And yet death anxiety or fear of that death rules life it seems.  What a completely fascinating paradox.

Completely fascinating is right. Accepting things for how they are I can definitely say that death anxiety rules a part of my life; living in the moment however transcends death anxiety and keeps me in state of liberation.

Yeah any notion of death dissolves with any notion of self in the love vibration/infinite consciousness/Real You. Staying there is so tricky though, especially with other states to explore.

I have my doubts that you would enjoy stable sameness for eternity.  In only 58 years I've come to find many of my favorite hobbies, uninteresting now.  Even fucking with people has gotten old. I can't imagine how I'd feel in ten million million years.
