Let's keep it at the level of human intelligence for now...

Intelligence is the sum total of your experiences that can easily be consciously accessed... ie- not forgotten.

Then there is a step higher... Creativity.... Creativity makes things happen intelligently... ie- in a manner that can be understood. ( If one dosen't understand... it simply means that they lack the experience )

What next? THere must be some kind of link....

Creativity, is governed by Imagination.

Imagination is the link.

Here's my stab:

Intelligence is purposely predicting, understanding, and altering the environment in order to achieve benefit.

intelligence is an ability to understand ones environment from multiple viewpoints in a way that does not favor any of these distinct viewpoints, but rather, takes the best qualities from all these viewpoints and integrates them into a new viewpoint.

Good one. The new viewpoint must be beneficial; this evidentially follows as a result of the process of taking the best qualities of previous viewpoints.

Let it slide...

I think your expieriences are your knowledge, inteligence is how you use your knowledge. Knowledge= tools, Inteligence= handyman. Thus a man with little expierience can still be inteligent. Although you can't build a boat with just a hammer. I also agree with all the other opinions on this thread.

intelligence:

pattern recognition, spatialization, memory, math, lateral thinking (some creativity in there), deductive logic, abstraction, reading comprehension, logically structured hierarchy of stored knowledge.

1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21....

knowing what comes next is not intelligence unless you've never seen this before. That is why all IQ tests are somewhat inaccurate, they rely on testing what you know, instead of your ability to learn.

intelligence is subject to interpatation, but I'll give it a stab.

intelligence is the ability to use your accumulated memories of your past thoughts and experiences to stay alive and achieve balance within your envronment while constantly enhancing your abilities to do so.

Aptitude is a synonym of intellegence in my opinion...the ability to properly analyze and interpret data. This can apply toward any kind of data received by your brain. To take it a level further it is the ability to accurately communicate as well.

I forget where this comes from but I've read that intelligence is the ability to use what you already know to solve applications that you have no idea about.

Correction, that is the "highest order of thinking," which could be interpreted as "intelligence."

That is analogous to what you were saying, infidelGOD.

Nice to see nobody writing rambling posts, I like the speedyness.

Intelligence is creativity. A creative person breaks from habit. Habit's problem is that it makes people impose their will and experience on new things they experience ie: the mechanic says "The body is a just a complex machine." No, it's a BODY! The non-creative thinker doesn't take things for what they are, which impedes learning. The samurai learning to cut grass makes a comparison between war and grass cutting and deploys the cutting crew in battle formation which is less efficient than the normal grass-cutting formation. Likewise, the grass cutter struggling with learning to fight dies in battle because to understand swordplay he draws on his experience cutting grass instead of accepting swordfighting for what it is and swings too weakly. Or something.

intelligence is a hard thing to define, i know plenty of really smart people that i just could not refer to as intelligent simply because the get caught up in the drama. The play the games and let it effect them on deep levels. I have a hard time saying the ability to avoid this is a telltale mark of intelligence, but i have a harder time saying people who can not avaoid it are intelligent.I can never call someone who lets the fact their roomate drank the last pepsi truley ruin their day intelligent, no matter how smart they are book wise, street wise, iq wise, or however you want to measure it. So i guess thats not really a definition, but thats my short easy response.

intelligense is knowing that "you" are YOUR own worst enemy.. knowing that your (or everyones) view of the world is just one of many interpretations of sensory data. perhaps intelligense is breaking free of the norms or constraints that the past and the "world" places on you. maybe its seeking the hidden part of yourself that is directly connected to the "cosmos". (infinity) killing "yourSELF".. knowing that "you" arent to be trusted to interpret the sensory data and attempting to weld yourself to the YOU that can. drugs (awareness enhancers) can aid that "return" but they produce a shift that cannot be replicated at WILL. (or usually) so it could be that intelligense is knowing that any "awareness enhancer" should only be taken in order to cultivate a feeling/knowledge of the possibility of individual and "human" awareness. once that footing which we all have is brought to the surface then its clarly time to listen (literally) and "get to know" oneself. "meditation" is good for that. i prefer to get comfortable and close my eyes and basically relax or silence my alien until dreaming is reached in a "lucid" state but tv works too for a superficial altered state.. my problem with it is that it still resides in a "human" arena. oops.. i think i might have rambled.. "what is intelligense"? recognizing your shadow, and seeing it as the miraculous thing it is.. knowing that we may be seemingly stuck "here", and yet being cognizant of, or able to notice the numerous omens there are all the time which usually go unnoticed that renew us with the Great Inkling of something more to EVERYTHING, ie Ourselves.. the unknown in short.

intelligence is an illusion, mere entertainment, its built into our minds so that we dont get bored and kill ourselves. it compels us to babble on and on and on about meaningless gribble-gabble, the words we communicate have no substance.

our genetics control our lives, other than reproduction, everything we do is completely incedental. but its fun, it fun to exercize our "intellect".....and one day we will be able to recreate our minds and put them into machines. but these machines will never work properly, because all they will be able to do with their artificial intelligence is walk in endless circles.

no........but then why would the universe be such a beautiful place?

or maybe its actually ugly and horrifying and we just interpret it as beautiful so that we keep reproducing.

no, thats really stupid.
