Should BRF cakes be left in jars before pinning?
    #14936890 - 08/17/11 12:01 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I am 6 weeks in and am getting worried. I don't know if that is long but I think I read somewhere it can lead to contams the longer? Before jars have always pinned invitro, I then proceeded to dunking and rolling and then birthing...this time I have 2 or 3 that look good while 2 or so look questionable...do cakes blue at all? Thanks

Let your jars sit 1 week after full colonization.  Yes cakes blue due to bruising

Well is there a such thing as waiting too long to birth? Like I said its been 6 weeks and they haven't pinned invitro. I don't know anyone that has come across this. The syringe was a year old so maybe its taking longerr?  I would say that at least 3 or 4 jars are just about fully colonized so I guess someone will have to get dunking.

It is suggested to let jars consolidate 1 month before birthing 1 week is the bare minumin.  If the jars are just about fully colonized then its too early to be dunking.  Let the jars sit a week after full colonization:shrug:

Yeah thats the thing...I could have sworn last week they were fully colonized only it has kind of slowed a little towards the end...I am definately goling to wait another week at least, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't too long.

Does the substrate cake ever blue for any reason while still colonizing? I've searched the forums and couldn't find anything. What I did find looked nothing like it. Hopefully its psilocybin who knows? *Sigh* I can't stop now...

It can bruise from being too dry.

Well its almost 7 weeks and still no pinning *sigh*...how much is too much? I'm not being impatient its just that I have never come across this. Should I toss the jars? I figured that they are all going to contam anyway, its been quite some time
