Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Any good?

After searching around for a suitable laptop for when I start back at University, I came across the Lenovo IdeaPad Z570. I was hoping I could get a little feedback before I go ahead and place an order.

It seems like a fairly high spec model for the money. The only downfall that I can see is the lack of USB 3.0 support but I could live with that. What do you think?
The only contender to the IdeaPad Z570 that I could see was the Dell XPS 15.

I will not pretend to be an expert on laptops, but I hear that Lenovo products are well worth the price. I myself am ordering a Thinkpad; an ugly and expensive piece of machinery that is nearly bulletproof in the hardware department.

do you need the high specs? for school, i'd probably opt for something more portable like the x220... anyways, the ideapad is lenovo's cheaper, more plasticy line... go w/ a thinkpad if possible... as to the specific specs the screen is on the low end for a 15.6" screen... 579 pounds is what, like $1000 USD? http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087¤t-category-id=158789389E999C7AFD948ECE84C546E5&action=init
the 14" thinkpad 420 w/ 1gb discrete video ram, i5 processor, 1600x900 screen res yadda seems like a much better buy to me and possibly a bit cheaper

i have a hard time suggesting anything but lenovo anymore. they make some great stuff.
the thinkpads are far superior than the ideapads but for their target audience (your parents and college kids) they are a pretty good value.
i have 2 thinkpads of my own. a number of family members have them as well. they are fantastic.

I love my thinkpad, but it is an enthusiasts or connoisseurs laptop for sure. What frith says about ideapads make sense.

i don't necessarily agree, i think thinkpads are reputable for design, durability, and a really good warranty/support, making a good candidate to be thought of as a business laptop more so than bleeding edge hardware for an enthusiast.. that said, my eyes did light up over the x220's specs... under 3lbs, sandy bridge, some 9 & 1/2 hrs of battery w/ option for a snap on 24hr battery... IPS panel...

Thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated. After much consideration, I went with my judgement and placed an order for the Lenovo IdeaPad Z570. It seems like a decent laptop for the money and I'm hoping it'll last me a number of years before I have to consider an upgrade.
