I used Mexican and cambodian in one BRF cake! (Pics)

Like the title says, I made a few BRF cakes, 2 in plastic 1 pt containers, and 2 in small jam jars, I had made a LC previously with the Mexican spores, (actually I made 2 BRF Jars and 3 LC's, all but 1 LC contam) and used the healthy mycelium to inoculate 3 and a half BRF cakes, and I used a Cambodian spore syringe to do the other half.
The Mexican mycelium has grown much quicker of course, but the Cambodian has not been slow, The plastic pots are at least 90% colonized, so I am going to leave them 3-4 days and dunk 'n' roll.
I don't know if my Mexicans are cubes, I bet they are, I think they were sold along side cubes on the vendors site,
I am considering putting pics up, but am a little bit paranoid.
Just thought you might all be interested, I promise at least one pic if they both fruit side by side

Mexican is a strain of Psilocybe cubensis; Psilocybe mexicana is a different species.

OK they are cubes then, I thought so. Thanks
Do you think the two types will fruit together?

Doesn't work like that.
Now let's go ahead and let this thread die with the 100 others that have been made asking the same damn question.

Yes. And you probably wont be able to tell them apart. When it comes down to it, they are the same mushroom.

LOL, this = hows everyone feeling?
I am so close to 100% colonization, This is my first successful (so far) grow, I will post pic's when we got some fruit, I don't have a clue compared to some members on the shroomery, but I'm betting I get "Mexican cubes" and "Cambodian cubes" on same cake, I think they should look different enough to tell the difference, we shall see.

Sorry for knocking you so hard but it's great you're experimenting and having fun. I just don't think you fully understand what it is you're doing since you're new to this still.
I went ahead and pulled up a post from RR on the subject.
Quote:
will injecting 2 different strains in a jar create a new strain?
Quote:
RogerRabbit said: Of course it will. You'll have millions of spores from two different prints of the same species mushroom. Most of the strains that emerge will join into a coherent whole by full colonization. It would be absurd to think none of the hyphae from print 1 would mate with compatible hyphae from print 2.
The point is, you probably won't be able to tell because with few exceptions, cubes tend to look like other cubes, and with multispore inoculation, every grow will be somewhat different. RR
Really in the end it's great you're enjoying this and having fun, that's what mycology is all about!
Just to clear things up when all is said and done you wont end up with 2 different strains on one cake. I really should of just done this from the start to clear things up instead of being rude. The information is there for you now though.
on it is that it really isn't worth it in the end. To each his own though. Good luck on the grow and be sure to post some pictures of your end result. No need to be paranoid, we're not cops.

I know they are not 2 different strains, I asked about the Mexicans but I know cubes are cubes, But because they come from different places, and are bred for different characteristics, I thought cubes had slight differences in colours, size, shape and colonization/fruiting time?
Thanks for your kind words, I am having loads of fun (not sure my missus is though!). I love this hobby, and its rewarding when you get it right.
Thanks to everyone who's given sound advise on the Shroomery, I have had nearly as much fun reading about mycology, as I have had practising it.
Big up RR

When using multi spore syringes the genetics are so random that it doesn't even really matter what strain you bought. You'd want to work with isolating parts of that strain to work with to get the characteristics you want each subsequent time you grow. However when using the MS syringes it's a roll of the dice. So by putting 2 different kinds of spores in there you ended rolling two dice that are slightly loaded more towards fail genetics it seems. A lot of grows I've seen from this have ended up leaning more towards a bad grow. Who knows though you could get some crazy awesome fruits!
I hope I was able to clear this up for you. Can't wait to see this grow in full force here soon. Keep us updated!

I can tell you right now what is going to happen. Like im fucking psychic or something. You will get a cake with different mushies growing out of it and you will not be able to tell one from the other because this is an MS grow. And along with this you will get shit poor results cause of competing genetics. This has been done so many times before and the results always come down to what I just said

here's some pic's of the cake in my SGFC, I birthed a bit early and it was not fully colonized in the middle, so I washed that bit off and its been in FC for about 36 hours now. Sorry about the pic quality, its my phone.
Hope I done that right?
