i can think of a nasty way to die:
on a ship, there are these empty tanks underneath the main engine that are called "lube oil drain tanks", they are usually empty. I had to clean one out last week (sucked MAJOR FUCKING BALLS... worst fucking job i have ever done) these tanks are Confined Spaces, meaning they are not usually places of work, so you have to take this hatch off and climb into this cramped fucking hot tank that is broken up into 6 compartments, each about the size of a couple of coffins, which are separated by 'lightning holes' that are just big enough to squeeze through. I think the worst way to die would be to be inside one, ankle deep in lube oil, then having the hatch cover bolted back on, and the main engines fired up, and as the air gets hotter and hotter inside the tank, you sweat in pitch black, and all the hot, 600 degree lube oil dumped into the tank when you are literally broiling in your own sweat, and cooked alive in oil.

There was an X-Files like that started like that except it was a waste-water tank on a ship I can't remember which episode though...

I have done a "main engine scavenge" before, which is where they take a hatch off the manifold of the main engine and you climb into the exhaust manifold and crawl along and scrape all the carbon out of each of the piston liners, like, you are literally inside the engine with a scraper, it's a shitty job, but the one I did wasn't too bad because they had an awesome fan blowing really cool air through the manifold so it wasn't too hot. but i got fucking filthy
i heard a story in the phillipines that a dude got accidentally left inside an engine manifold when they hatched it back up, and they fired it up, and he literally got cooked inside the exhaust manifold. THAT would fucking suck.

ho damn left in a ships engine? fucking brutal. he'd be dead on the first compression. i'd never go in confined shit like that...fuck that. rather sell hot dogs on shore for dirt money than make bank potentially becoming engine goo

lol, yeah that was in some third world shit though. our procedures are pretty intense, a lot of paperwork and locking-out/tagging out and stand-bys.
I couldn't imagine how much it would suck. He would have suffered unimaginably, you have the air intake/exhaust for the turbo, the engine compression, the exhaust fumes, the heat, the noise... it would just be the worst thing in the world.
fuck. that.

the most confined thing i have ever crawled into was a torpedo tube
assuming it hasnt been washed off somehow, my name is signed on the hatch at the end of one of the torpedo tubes on the USS newport news.
if i remember correctly its the top tube of the 2nd column (from the left)
anyone wanna go check and see for me? i dont have access to places like that anymore

i would have died before i even got launched out. they pressurize those things so much prior to launching torpedoes.
i never experienced a real torpedo launch but they did fire some "water slugs" while i was on the boat. they just fill up the tube with water and blast it out.
it rocks the boat like all hell.
thats not as fun as sitting in the missile launch room (the furthest room towards the front of the boat) when it surfaces though.
that shit was like riding a roller coaster.
i kind of wish i had joined the navy. submarines are the shit.

the deuser on another ship i was on was this old russian dude, ex-submariner from the russian subs in the cold war days. fuckin nutter.
We saw some cool navy exercises and shit at sea, had some commandos do a piray exercise using black hawks to board our ship, with 5 black hawks buzzing around us at dusk with the reflections of night vision goggles peering down at us scoping us out, was pretty cool
one of my mates has just joined the commandos, hes a tank.
would be an awesome lifestyle, but not for me. i dont have the discipline....
