Lions Mane question
    #14905686 - 08/11/11 12:16 PM (9 years, 11 months ago)

I did up a bag of Lions Mane from a wedge I received and just picked it today.  It was my understanding that it formed a ball mass with small tedrils.  This bag fuited looking more like Broccoli.  Any advise on what is wrong?

do you know the specific name? Lions mane is used to describe hericium sp., but there are several species of hericium, it sounds like you were expecting H. erinacious, and what you have is a different hericium

I'm probably talking out my ass, since I've never cultivated lions mane, but what you have there appears to be H. abietus, the conifer-coral hericium, based on the branching and coloration

Possible, but H. erinaceus can grow like this, if there is too much CO2.

it's the branching of the "icicles" that led  me to think that

IMO high CO2, ive found the strain i have likes it under 700PPM, anymore and it loses some density.  I was running my oysers at 800-900PPM CO2 and they were fine, but the LM were not dense enough. When i added more fresh air and brought the co2 down under 700PPM, it had dense growth.

We know that the color may be a misleading indicator.

(Interesting look-up though, Paducah)
