a friend has 4 bags, colonized, and sitting in a rubbermaid at a steady 70 deg. he is wondering if he should leave the bags closed or cut down to one inch above substrate, put perlite in the bottom and grow as if they were cakes. or will leaving them in the bags produce the same result as cutting them

My monkey just tried his first bag along with a bunch of jars he was making to see how well they worked. Seemed like an excellent birthday or christmas gift for people if the bags produced results as-is without doing anything extra. It colonized just as fast as the jars and all, but it took a good week or 2 longer to pin. And now that is it, he'd say there are probably 10 pins, 3 of which will become good sized mushrooms. He guesses the bag itself contains about 3 half pints worth of rye, and he has 2 casings with 3 half pints each from the same batch that have had their first flush already. Comparing his first harvest from the casing to what he see in the bag, he'd say the casings will easily produce 2x the weight in shrooms. I compared them myself, and I'd say that its more like 4 or 5 times, but he's the expert.

Monkey says case 'em.
