Surgery.... on casing
    #1489737 - 04/24/03 04:10 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

So said my dog (excuse the briefness, the lawn must be mowed):

"Upon examining my birdseed casing yesterday, I noticed none other than green mold. I donned rubber gloves, washed with alcohol, and thouroughly cleaned the scalpel. I then proceeded to slice the small spot and replace it with clean damp verm. It was then that I realized it was not mold, but bruising from the picking of an abort the day before and using one finger to keep the cake in place while I did. Now it looks fine, but around the edge of the verm the cake seems slightly yellowed. It is not something growing on the cake, but more the yellow you may see in a jar if there is condensation on the cake. Any ideas?"

I think my dog must've been tripping or something

Mist with water/peroxide... keep an eye on it... if it turns out to be contam.. remove it from the fruiting chamber as soon as possible.. time will tell.. good luck...

So I was told by my dog:

"I checked the piece I removed and noticed it was doing the same thing. I carefully examined it and found it was the coloration of the seed coupled with the bruising. Some of the seed being light yellow was compounded by the bruising and looked more suspicious as the fuzzy mycelia died around it dude to the bruising."
